RECAPS: Lingo goes Hawaiian

The set for these episodes has Hawaiian stuff on it, with such dancers and Chuck Woolery, as always, decked out.

The first show had Vakisha and Nicole facing Zach and Brad. Board for the first team:

(01)(XX)(35)(XX)(63)
(09)(23)(XX)(XX)(57)
(XX)(17)(XX)(39)(67)
(13)(27)(XX)(49)(XX)
(05)(XX)(31)(53)(XX)

For the other team:

(10)(XX)(36)(XX)(64)
(02)(28)(XX)(XX)(58)
(XX)(14)(XX)(42)(68)
(18)(24)(XX)(54)(XX)
(06)(XX)(32)(50)(XX)

The girls get DQed on turn 2 for saying DRUMB, which is not a word. Oddly enough, the guys are given DRU--, and they pick up by saying drunk for 25. The hosts joke about playing the fake DRUMB. But what's not funny is that Zach gets a stopper right away. The girls get their first points by solving FOUND on turn 4, but they also get an instant stopper. The guys run out of time on turn four, so the girls have two turns to solve HU--S with an A out of place- they solve HULAS to double. They pull out 17....but a stopper as well. The guys get up to L--GE with two turns left, then read my ESP and correctly say LODGE to tie. They pull 18 and 42. After turn 2, the guys have S--N- with a U out of place, and I know this- or at least I thought- they gut SUNNY insead of SAUNA to take the lead with 75. They pull 32 and need a 36 for the first Lingo of the show....10 instead. They then get DQed on turn 4 with BOIST, giving the girls BL--- to work with, and the E and the S out of place. They give the guys some more BLUES to worry about, as they get it on the last turn to tie the game again. But they get an instant stopper, so they still have their base board from the beginning. Zach and Brad take back the lead at 100 with ABUSE in five, and still need 36 for a Lingo. They pull.....14, meaning they also can Lingo with a 68.....but they get 06, meaning they get another two ways to Lingo. That ends the round, with the guys leading 100-75.

Round 2 starts with the guys getting MOIST after the girls dawdle on their last turn. They can Lingo at this point with 36, 68, 50 or 02. They pull....64, which opens up 24 for a Lingo.....but we see 54 instead, leaving them with 150 to the ladies' 75. The guys have the next word start with T, and get the other four out of place- O, C, A and S. They eventually get TACOS on the last turn, which is not related to Hawaii at all. Now, if they guys avoid 58 and the stoppers, they will Lingo.....they get 50 to Lingo in two ways and go up to 300! The ladies score 50 with REEFS; now will they get a new mark on their board after all this time? They pull....a WILD, and they mark 31, meaning they can Lingo with another WILD or 35.....39 instead. The game ends there, with the guys winning 300-125. The first round on these episodes ends with a tidal wave sound, and the maingame ends with a weird foghorn and a little Hawaiian note.

In Bonus Lingo, with 2 Bonus Letters to work with, they get five words, despite goofing on SHORT. Their bonus board:

(06)(08)(28)(34)(XX)
(XX)(18)(XX)(44)(XX)
(XX)(XX)(XX)(40)(58)
(XX)(XX)(XX)(52)(XX)
(02)(26)(30)(XX)(64)

As you can see, they need a 52 on the first turn for the $10,000. They pull.....44, meaning they can win $5,000 if they pull 52, 18 or 02. They pull....18 two turns later for $5,000!

Show 2: Angie and Carlisle meet Clint and Niki. The all ladies team's board looks like:

(05)(XX)(XX)(37)(63)
(XX)(15)(31)(XX)(55)
(XX)(21)(XX)(45)(XX)
(07)(XX)(XX)(53)(61)
(13)(29)(39)(XX)(69)

Other board:

(08)(XX)(XX)(48)(62)
(XX)(16)(32)(XX)(56)
(XX)(30)(XX)(46)(XX)
(06)(XX)(XX)(54)(70)
(14)(22)(38)(XX)(54)

The ladies score first with LOSER in three, and pull 07 and 31, meaning they can Lingo with 39.
They get DQed on GROUD on turn 4, so Clint and Niki get GRO-- and two turns to do it....but run out of time on their first, so the girls get another O and solve GROOM to go to 50. They pull 05 to open up 13, and pull 61 to open up 53. They then solve PRANK, pull 63 to open up 37, and pull 45 to open up 21. They then quickly solve FRONT, and pull 13 to Lingo and go to 150!
Their new board:

(XX)(05)(33)(XX)(63)
(09)(21)(XX)(55)(XX)
(01)(XX)(XX)(47)(59)
(13)(17)(XX)(51)(XX)
(XX)(25)(37)(XX)(67)

Clint and Niki get on the board with SHARK in four. They pull 16 and 22 to make 30 a Lingo choice for them. They then run ou of time while on the last turn with CL--S to work with, so the ladies get a U. They say CLUES instead of my guess of CLUBS....and they're right! They pull 13 and 17 to open up 51 as a Lingo possibility. The round ends, and the girls lead, 175-25.

In Round 2, Clint and Niki are DQed for using NOBEL, which is a proper name. The ladies have NOVE- to work with, and they solve NOBEL for 50. Remember, a 51 or a WILD will give them another Lingo. But they get the first stopper of the day, leaving them with 225. The other team solves GLASS, and need a 30 or a WILD for a Lingo. They get....a WILD for a Lingo, and they go to 150! Deficit is now 75. Clint and Niki's new board:

(XX)(18)(44)(XX)(64)
(10)(06)(XX)(38)(XX)
(02)(XX)(XX)(52)(60)
(14)(26)(XX)(48)(XX)
(XX)(22)(34)(XX)(68)

The ladies solve FLIPS in five to go to 275 and increase their lead to 125. They get the 51 to get another Lingo and go to 375! They win with 425.

In Bonus Lingo, with three Bonus Letters to work with, They use up their last Bonus on their third word. They got four right and their board is:

(07)(XX)(XX)(XX)(51)
(01)(13)(XX)(XX)(53)
(03)(XX)(XX)(XX)(59)
(09)(21)(31)(43)(XX)
(XX)(XX)(37)(XX)(69)

If they pull 43 on the first turn, they're $10,000 richer. They pull......13, opening up 21.....and they pull 69 next, opening 37.......they pull 3 next, meaning they must pull 59, 43, 21 or 37 on their last turn for five large. Carlisle has.....43 for $5,000!

Show 3: Bishop and Rob face Robert and Heather. The guys' board;

(03)(XX)(35)(53)(XX)
(XX)(07)(XX)(45)(65)
(11)(23)(XX)(XX)(69)
(XX)(XX)(27)(49)(61)
(15)(XX)(41)(57)(XX)

The other board:

(08)(XX)(32)(50)(XX)
(XX)(12)(XX)(54)(62)
(04)(20)(XX)(XX)(58)
(XX)(XX)(28)(46)(70)
(16)(XX)(40)(42)(XX)

The couple starts off with points first after solving PONDS after the guys draw a blank. They pull 16, and they can Lingo with 54....but they get a stopper instead. The couple then capitalizes on another buzz on the guys by solving TABOO, and then draw 08 and 50 to open up 32 and 4.
They stay perfect with BOATS, and Lingo to go to 125! The teams go back and forth a few times on LIVID, with the couple solving to stay perfect after the guys say LIVED instead. New board for the couple:

(02)(XX)(34)(42)(XX)
(XX)(14)(XX)(50)(62)
(10)(18)(XX)(XX)(58)
(XX)(XX)(26)(46)(66)
(06)(XX)(38)(54)(XX)

They pull 26 and 34, meaning they can Lingo with 38, or a WILD in Round 2. They get OPERA next, but get an instant stopper. The guys draw a blank instantly on the next word, but they eventually get control back and solve ITCHY to get on the board. They pull 11 and 61, and the round ends with the couple leading 175-25.

To start Round 2, the couple steals CORAL, and pull 58 and 06 to open up 50.
They run out of time on turn 2, and the guys steal with FRIES, but they get the stopper.
They steal again from the couple on PASTA, going to 125. They pull 15, meaning a 03, 45 or a WILD will tie the game.....they get a WILD, but they call 41 instead!!!! DARN! But there's still time. The couple scores next with MINKS to increase their lead with 275, and get a WILD to Lingo and go to 375! The game ends there. Bishop and Rob can feel a little better, because they still would have lost even if they hadn't made their bonehead mistake.

In Bonus Lingo, with 3 Bonus Letters to work with, they get the perfect ten to lock up the $5,000! But can they win the ten? They will, if they could get, what else, 10! They get.....10!!!!! Second time ever that a team has won the max money after running the table in Bonus Lingo! Way to go!

Show 4: Tough act to follow, but Maria and Julie will face Tara and Richard. The girls' board:

(XX)(05)(33)(XX)(63)
(09)(21)(XX)(55)(XX)
(01)(XX)(XX)(47)(59)
(13)(17)(XX)(51)(XX)
(XX)(25)(37)(XX)(67)

Tara and Richard's board:

(XX)(18)(44)(XX)(64)
(10)(06)(XX)(38)(XX)
(02)(XX)(XX)(52)(60)
(14)(26)(XX)(48)(XX)
(XX)(22)(34)(XX)(68)

The girls draw first blood with FLUSH, but get an instant stopper. Tara and Richard get IMAGE on the first turn, and draw 44 and 34 to get an Instant Lingo! I think Chuck's right; that's the first time in my memory, such a scenario for a team has occurred. That's 75 for the couple.
The ladies fire back with OCEAN, and pull 59 and 51, which are of no help. Tara and Richard score with LOCAL, and have this new board:

(08)(XX)(32)(50)(XX)
(XX)(12)(XX)(54)(62)
(04)(20)(XX)(XX)(58)
(XX)(XX)(28)(46)(70)
(16)(XX)(40)(42)(XX)

They pull 40 and 58, which don't help them this time. They get DQed next by spelling TOWS as TOWES, and I hear the hilarious high-pitched version of the lose cue! The girls solve TOWER to go to 50, and pull 47 to open up 01 and 55 to Lingo. They then pull....67 to open up 21 and 63 as new Lingo possibilities. After they run out of time on their last turn, the couple solves SURFS, and pull 12 and 50 to open up 20 as a Lingo possibility. They get an instant DQ with RAINE; the girls steal on the last turn with RACES. Four ways to Lingo for them, but they get a stopper right away, and the high-pitched loss cue goes off again. The round ends with Tara and Richard leading 125-100.

To start Round 2, the ladies take the lead by solving BIRDS to go to 150. They then pull 37 to open up 33 and 25....and get 17 to still not Lingo. They then get aware to go to 200. They draw the WILD, and don't do the same thing that some guys did on Show 3; they pick 55 with it to Lingo and go to 300! They go on to win, 350-175.

In Bonus Lingo, with 2 Bonus Letters to work with, they get seven words right. Bonus board:

(XX)(XX)(23)(XX)(59)
(03)(17)(39)(45)(XX)
(05)(XX)(XX)(XX)(63)
(11)(21)(XX)(XX)(65)
(13)(XX)(XX)(XX)(57)

We will have our second straight $10,000 win if the girls can draw 45 on the first turn. They get.....11. They Lingo with 21 three turns later for $5,000.

For the finale, we have Meyoung and Michael facing Jen and Sara. The couple's board:

(XX)(07)(31)(XX)(63)
(03)(19)(XX)(39)(XX)
(11)(XX)(XX)(47)(51)
(15)(27)(XX)(55)(XX)
(XX)(23)(35)(XX)(67)

The ladies' board:

(XX)(20)(36)(XX)(64)
(04)(08)(XX)(44)(XX)
(12)(XX)(XX)(52)(60)
(16)(24)(XX)(48)(XX)
(XX)(28)(32)(XX)(68)

The couple gets the DQ after saying WASHS, but get away with it when the ladies can't solve WAVES despite getting WAVE-; Meyoung and Michael steal. They pull 39 and 55, meaning they can Lingo with 55. They get DQed again by using a word that's six letters, and the ladies capitalize this time with NURSE to get on the board. They pull 52 and 36 to make 32 a Lingo possiblility for them. They solve LEASE next, and get the 32 to go to 100! They steal from the couple with TRIAL, giving the ladies this new board:

(10)(XX)(36)(XX)(64)
(02)(28)(XX)(XX)(58)
(XX)(14)(XX)(42)(68)
(18)(24)(XX)(54)(XX)
(06)(XX)(32)(50)(XX)

They pull 14 and 36, meaning they can Lingo with 32. They solve GLORY next, pull 06 and get a stopper. They steal wth SCUBA, but get another stopper. The round ends, and the ladies lead, 175-25.

To start Round 2, the ladies score another steal with FAKED. and Lingo with 32! They're up to 325! New board for them:

(04)(XX)(34)(XX)(XX)
(12)(XX)(38)(56)(70)
(XX)(16)(XX)(XX)(62)
(XX)(26)(44)(48)(60)
(08)(22)(XX)(52)(XX)

Meyoung and Michael score this time with PEARL, and say 47 upon getting a WILD to go to 175, but they need to do the same thing again to tie it up. The couple's new board:

(01)(XX)(35)(XX)(63)
(09)(23)(XX)(XX)(57)
(XX)(17)(XX)(39)(67)
(13)(27)(XX)(40)(XX)
(05)(XX)(31)(53)(XX)

The ladies use all five turns to correctly guess LUNCH, and all but put this game away. They pull 22 and 70, which don't help them. They run out of time on their last turn, so Meyoung and Michael can steal with MED--, and A and L out of place. They say MEDAL to go to 225, but immediately get a stopper. The ladies guess TOURS to go to 425, and they pull 16 first. At this point, they can score another Lingo if Sara can pull a 26, a WILD or a 62. She pulled...08. The game ended with them winning, 425-225.

In Bonus Lingo, with three Bonus Letters to work with, they got six words right. Their board:

(XX)(12)(30)(44)(62)
(XX)(14)(XX)(46)(XX)
(06)(16)(XX)(XX)(XX)
(XX)(20)(XX)(XX)(XX)
(02)(XX)(40)(52)(66)

If they get a 20 on their first turn, the Hawaiian group of shows will go out in style with a $10,000 win. Jen pulls....30. Two turns later, she Lingos with 40 for $5,000!
