WWTBAM: Things have been going well this week for them (and much better than last week- had the first $50,000 winner of the season missed his $25,000 question, the show would have set an all-time low for money given away in one week with $25,000, as only one of the other contestants that week won more than $1,000). Each contestant this week has won at least $25,000. Also, each one has managed to get past their $50,000 question.

Trying to keep either streak intact is Kim Weaver from Jay, Florida. She is a music teacher. After getting past the $8,000 question (which was about pro wrestling!!!) and the $16,000 one, here is her $25,000 question:

By definition, a “Keynesian” supports the theories of a man renowned in what field?

A: Economics
B: Chemistry
C: Astronomy
D: Archaeology

She’s totally stumped, so she calls Sarah, her niece. She’s totally sure it’s Economics. Weaver agrees…the upper tier streak’s still alive! First $50,000 question:

Neander Valley, where the remains of the original Neanderthal man were found, is located in what country?

A: Turkey
B: Switzerland
C: Germany
D: Afghanistan

She polls the audience. 31% said Turkey, 25% said Germany, 23% said Afghanistan and 21% said Switzerland. She then decides to use the 50:50, leaving…the second and least popular choices from the audience. Weaver stays with this question and says Germany, the second most popular answer…and another person has surpassed the $50,000 question! After switching out the first one, here is her $100,000 question:

What former world leader lost two of his fingers playing with live grenades when he was a boy?

A: Ariel Sharon
B: Slobodan Milosevic
C: Boris Yeltsin
D: Lech Walesa

She’s stumped, so she takes the $50,000 and scrams. Answer: Yeltsin.

The next player is Mitchell Szczepanczyk from Chicago. He’s been a huge trivia fan she he was born, so he should feel right at home! For $2,000:

The title of the 1966 Beach Boys hit “Sloop John B” refers to what type of vehicle?

A: Motorcycle
B: Airplane
C: Pickup truck
D: Sailboat

He asks the audience, and 78% went with the boat. He agrees and is right. Next:

Introduced to grocery stores in 1902, Karo is a classic brand of what?

A: Vinegar
B: Powdered milk
C: Corn syrup
D: Whipped cream

He’s unsure again, so he calls Amanda, who says my answer of corn syrup before the choices were even read! Needless to say, the player gets this question right for $4,000. Last question of the day, for $16,000:

The acclaimed ABC drama “Brothers & Sisters” is centered on the lives of what California-based family?

A: The Mansfields (Mansfield was the name of a toilet company, BTW)
B: The McDermotts
C: The Quinns
D: The Walkers

The 50:50 leaves the McDermotts and the Walkers. He wanted to go with the Quinns, but that choice is now dead. With no knowledge on the two remaining families, he stops at $8,000, meaning both streaks have officially come to an end. Oh well. The answer was the Walkers.

Family Feud: Today, I’m only covering Game 2. Here, they had another chance of crowning their first five-time champions of the season (BTW, the “On your marks, let’s start….“ line has been dropped from the opening). The Sims family (a different one than earlier in the season, with this one being from Birmingham, Alabama) has $22,630 so far. If they win Fast Money this show, they will become the biggest winners of the season so far. But to get a chance to do that, they have to beat the Azzarellas.

The challengers score the game’s first 64 points on things a bride might do just before walking down the aisle at a wedding. They get another 80 on things a Vegas casino would absolutely hate to run out of (Marina of the challengers said clean sheets!!!).

Double: Name a reason why your spouse might end up on the couch. Starting with:

1.
2.
3.
4. Coming home late (8, Tanesha)
5. Cheating (6, Marina)

The champs play. Aakre (that’s the weirdest name I’ve ever heard!) says sleeping…#3 (9)! Shirley says arguing…that or fighting is NUMBER ONE (44)! They are in real good position to sweep this board. Emmett thinks #2 is putting the kids to bed…not it. Fred tries no beds available…no. Tanesha says watching a movie…NO. To score a really big lead for the challengers, Jennie says snoring (?!?!?!)…NO FREAKIN’ WAY, so the champs are on the board with 134! #2 was forgetting a birthday or an anniversary (10).

Triple: Name a reason a younger man might like an older woman. Aakre rings in with lots of money…NUMBER ONE (39), so the champs get to play! Shirley then says she’s more mature…#2 (38)! Emmett says mother figure…not there. Fred thinks making whoopee is there, whether he likes Bob Eubanks or not…#3 (12)!! Things are looking real good for them, as only the dreaded #4 answer remains. Tanesha says that older women might find better places to live…no. Aakre says she’s easygoing…NO. This steal is for the game. Jennie says a better reputation……

…NO, SO THE SIMS FAMILY HAS DONE IT AT 401! #4 was having brains (4).

Fast Money: Shirley and Aakre try for the $20,000.

1. According to 100 guys, what’s the longest you’ve watched TV in one stretch?
2. Name your favorite fattening food besides chocolate.
3. Name something you find in an operating room.
4. Name a book people refer to frequently.
5. Name something you should do for your heart.

Aakre ran out of time before she got to answer the last question. She said ten minutes (bad), cake, phone (bad) and dictionary for 57. Shirley said three hours, hamburger, doctors, Dr. Spock (REALLY BAD) and also ran out of time on the last question, meaning they finish with $440 today, and a final total of $23,070.

They gave NONE of the top answers here. They were:
1. 4 hours
2. Ice cream
3. Scalpel
4. Bible (They should’ve gotten this.)
5. Exercising (They should’ve gotten this one too.)

Temptation: In Game 1, there are three new players. Whomever leads after the second Speed Round will have a chance at $5,000 in Instant Ca$h. Here are the players:

After Speed Round #1...

Theresa: $20

..both Annie and Valerie are tempted with...two video phones by Pocket Tango and two white gold diamond earrings, all worth $1,350 for a sale price of $7, and Valerie buys the swag right away! She's down to $18 as we go to this Fame Game board:

2. "M is for Murder"- NO

That was one quick round! $10 was behind "G is for Gumshoe" and $15 was behind "I is for Innocent".

Theresa should be real upset, because she only leaves with a ticket home. Valerie, however, definitely has no reason to- she's leaving with $6,104 in cash and prizes!

The big prizes are the same as the ones Mark played with while he was on the show, with the Toyota Prius as the top prize. Super Knock Off category...true facts about Woody Allen.

1. Mia Farrow marriage- WIPEOUT!

That's the first time ever that someone has blown this round on the first pick! The dollar amount locations weren't revealed, but the six right answers were flunking out of college, the real first name being Allen, writing for "The Tonight Show", playing the clarinet, writing "Annie Hall" and dating Diane Keaton.

Because she only has $45 in her bank account, she's offered a Croton watch to buy and leave the show. But obviously, she wants to come back.

Now, for Game 2. Melanie defends her crown this time against:

Cindy: A person who learned to shop and haggle from her mother.
Dawn: An office manager who claims to sniff out a bargain better than any of her friends.

After Speed Round #1...

Melanie: $25
Cindy: $25
Dawn: $35

...Dawn gets tempted with a 1-year membership from Bally Total Fitness and an IPod. ARP: $1,399, with a base sale price of $12. The price then gets lowered to $10 for the final offer. Going once...going twice...SOLD! That means we now have a three-way tie at $25 apiece! Fame Game board:

Knock Off category: Billionaires, according to such a list from a 2007 issue of Forbes.

Donald Trump
Steven Spielberg
Tiger Woods
George Lucas
Steve Jobs
J.K. Rowling
Oprah Winfrey
Ralph Lauren
Ted Turner
Jay-Z
David Geffen
Madonna

Cindy's furthest to the left with her $25, so she goes first and chooses J.K. Rowling...that's the $15 answer, so she's tied it up! Dawn goes with Turner...that's good for $2 and $27 total. Melanie's first pick is Steve Jobs...also a $2 answer, so she has $42. Cindy's second pick is Spielberg...that's a $5 answer, putting her in the lead with $45! Dawn then goes with Geffen...that's also worth $5, taking her to $32. Melanie's next choice is Lucas...$10 answer, meaning she's back in the lead with $52! Cindy then goes with Oprah, and sure enough, it's a $2 answer, so she's up to $47. Dawn then sides with Trump...another deuce, giving her $34 now.
Melanie then tries Jay-Z...NO. That gives Cindy a chance to tie the game, and she thinks the last $5 answer is behind Ralph Lauren....and it is!

That means Melanie and Cindy are both offered a supply of fragrance products from Crabtree & Evelyn and a supply of Godiva chocolates, for a total prize package valued at $838. The base sale price is $15, but $200 cash then gets thrown in as the final offer. Going once...going twice...NO SALE.

The two choices in Speed Round #2 are "Agency" and "Network". "Agency" stands for U.S. government agencies. On each turn, some initials are given.

1. CBS

Thanks to that last correct answer, she's eligible for Instant Ca$h. At this point, the jackpot here is worth $3,500. Going once...going twice...she goes for it! She thinks the big money is in the white wallet...BULLSEYE!

Time for the $10 Speed Round, and it is still anybody's game. Dawn is only $3 off the lead.

The $100 was behind the Ford ad answer, and the $50 was behind the guest-starring choice. She will be back next time.

WOF: At the beginning, three co-hosts of “The View” said congratulations to the show for hitting the big 25! Tonight’s players are Dale Johnson (in the yellow) from Round Rock, TX (who is a stay-at-home dad that is part of a family who watches this show every night!), Tabitha Grady from Memphis (who is a homemaker) and Brandie Elgin from Prather, CA (who is a stay-at-home mom). The man gets A HEFTY RAISE for his first $1,000, while Grady gets JUMPING ROPE for $2,000.

Round 1 category is Rhyme Time, and out on the wheel now is a $7,000 trip to Aruba. After picking up the Wild Card and buying the E’s, Grady has this showing…

S E E

_ _ _

_ _ T E R

_ _ _ _ G _ T _ R

…I know it now, and it’s the last lyric of the theme song for “Wally Gator”. After buying the A’s and the O’s, she solves SEE YOU LATER ALLIGATOR for $1,050 and $3,050 total.

Jackpot/Prize Puzzle Round category is Food & Drink. Elgin gets the Wild Card and $300 right off the bat by calling an R. After she calls the G a few turns later, we have…

G _ R _ _ N

_ _ _ _ _ _

S _ L _ _

…I think I just don’t know the middle word. She buys four A’s, and after calling the D, we now have…

G _ R _ A N

_ _ _ A _ _

S A L A D

…this is a tricky puzzle. I thought for sure the first word was GARDEN. After she buys the E, it pops up as the second letter of the first word. After calling a $400 M, she loses a turn with a dud vowel call of I. Even with $5,750 and a trip at stake, she decides to save the Free Spin. The man calls a P to pick up the 25 wedge, which contains 25 Buy.com gift certificates, worth $1,250. He then tries to solve the puzzle with GERMAN POTATO SALAD for that prize and a trip to Berlin, Germany, for a new total of $7,250.

Big Money Round category is Phrase. After Grady calls an L for $3,500, she uses her Wild Card to call two H’s for another $7,000! At that point, we have…

I/C A N’ T/H _ A _/_ _ _ _ L _/T H I N _

…and she then buys two E’s. She then lands on a Mystery Wedge and calls an R. Despite having over ten grand in her bank, she flips it over…the risk pays off! But she loses her turn with a G call. Elgin hits a Bankrupt and decides to use her Free Spin this time. After she calls the K, we now have…

I/C A N’ T/H E A R/_ _ _ E L _/T H I N K

…I still don’t know the missing word. She calls a B, but that’s a dud. The man in the middle calls a $900 S, but calls a dud in P. That gives Grady the chance to steal I CAN’T HEAR MYSELF THINK for $20,900 this round and $23,950 total!

She then solves LIGHTNING BUGS to go to $26,950. Speed-Up Round category is Around the House, and consonants are worth $1,600 apiece. After she calls the C, we have…

C _ _ T _ _- _ _ _ _

F _ R N _ T _ R _

…but she can’t solve. Elgin calls the I, but can’t solve. The man calls the S, and he solves CUSTOM-MADE FURNITURE to finish with $8,850. Elgin leaves with $1,000 after getting shut out, and Grady is our champion with $26,950!

Let’s see if she can carry that luck from the Big Money Round into the endgame. She spins the fourth zero and the category is Phrase. Starting with:

_ _ N _ S _

_ _

I might not know it, but some of you readers probably do by now. Grady calls H, C, M and I and gets…

_ I N I S H

_ _

…she gets FINISH UP for $30,000, and she takes home $56,950, all cash, making her the biggest winner of the season so far! Well done!

Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?: Tonight’s first contestant is Maria Brooker, a 28-year-old sales representative. Her first partner is Alana, and I kinda winced at that pick. If you didn’t watch the last episode, Alana caused TWO contestants to lose everything. Here are the subjects for this game:

1st Grade Math
1st Grade Music
2nd Grade Astronomy
2nd Grade Measurements
3rd Grade Cultural Studies
3rd Grade Vocabulary
4th Grade World Geography
4th Grade World History
5th Grade Earth Science
5th Grade U.S. History

First category selection is Astronomy.

The planet Earth is located in what galaxy?

She says Milky Way to get on the board. Next category is 4th Grade World Geography.

What is the capital of Sweden?

She decides to peek at Alana’s answer, which was Stockhome, which is a misspelling of Stockholm, but if that’s the right answer, the misspelling won’t matter. She agrees with the student and is right. Incidentally, Jacob thought the answer was “Sweedishville”!

Her new partner is Spencer, and the next selected category is Music.

What national hymn written by Katharine Lee Bates contains the lyrics “From sea to shining sea”?

She gets “America the Beautiful” no problem. BTW, her little brother Mario owns a pair of giant dirty tennis shoes, and showed them to the audience!

Her next category is 3rd Grade Cultural Studies.

What was the name of the Egyptian god of the sun?

A: Ra
B: Hathor
C: Ramses

She says Ra for $10,000. Her new partner is Marki Ann, and the next category is Math. To get to $25,000:

Which of the following is the smallest?

A: 1/3
B: ¼
C: ½

It’s B, and she agrees! Next category is Measurements.

A U.S. month will have a Friday the 13th if the first of the month is on what day of the week?

The answer is Sunday, but she says Tuesday and Marki Ann says Wednesday, so she’s done. At least she had nothing to lose there.

Next is Dylan Mack, a 27-year-old Army Ranger. When he got to the $25,000 mark, only his peek was left. Here were his remaining subjects:

2nd Grade Grammar
3rd Grade Social Studies
4th Grade Health
5th Grade Literature
5th Grade World Geography

His partner at this point was Jacob. He chooses Grammar.

What is the verb in the following sentence:

“It is such a nice day!”

I’ll have to be honest, I had NO IDEA. He got “is” no problem to double to $50,000! He then chose Alana as his new partner, and the next selected category was Social Studies.

Which is NOT a member of the U.S. Presidential Cabinet?

A: Secretary of Education
B: Attorney General
C: White House Press Secretary

He says C to double his money again! Next category was 5th Grade World Geography.

The Gobi Desert is located on which continent?

I thought Africa, but I wasn’t sure. He agreed with me, as did the other members of the class. Alana said North America….everybody was wrong! It was Asia! That also sends him home with $25,000.

Don’t Forget the Lyrics!: The new contestant is Gabrielle Hatchett from Youngstown, OH. She wants to be a chef. The set is a bit bigger, and the category screen is in blue now. The graphics are also slightly different. Here are the categories this game:

ROCK
AMERICAN FAVORITES
POP
LOVE SONGS
R & B
QUEEN
MOTOWN
CLASSIC ROCK
1980s

First up for her is Pop, and the song choices are “I Write the Songs” by Barry Manilow and “Let’s Dance” by David Bowie. She tries the Barry Manilow song. Her potential backup singers are Kim (a friend) and Nathan (her boyfriend). For her first song, she needs to fill in four missing words. The lyrics from the portion of each song used are now always shown at the bottom of the screen. Here’s the lyric:

“I write the songs that make ___ ____ ____ ____”

She completes it with “…the whole world sing”, but isn’t totally sure, so she uses the two words freebie. She checks the last two words, both of which are correct. She locks in the other two and is right.

Next category is 1980s, and the choices there are “Who Can It Be Now?” by Men at Work and “Kokomo” by The Beach Boys. She goes for “Kokomo”, and again, she has a four-word target.

Here’s the lyric:

“That’s where you wanna go, to get _____ ______ _______ ______”

Her guess is “…away from it all”, and she locks the words in to double her money. Next category is Love Songs, and the choices there are “Baby, Come to Me” by Patti Austin and James Ingram and “Could It Be I’m Falling In Love” by Spinners. She’s up for the song by the Spinners. This time, she only has to fill in three words. They follow after “Could it be I’m falling in love”. She sings “…with you baby” and locks them in. To double her money, or go home with zero dollars….that’s right!

Next up for her is Motown. The choice is between “I Finally Got the Ring!” and “Will You Marry Me?”. Both songs were done by Nathan Reid….OR WERE THEY?!?! As it turned out, those aren’t actually song titles- rather, they were messages written by her boyfriend, and you know what that means…they’re getting engaged!!

Back to the game now, the REAL song choices are “My Guy” by Mary Wells and “I Can’t Get Next To You” by The Temptations. She goes with “My Guy”, and three missing words are needed. With soon-to-be husband Nathan Reid standing beside her, she sings “…we stick together” after “Like birds of a feather”. After locking the answer in, she has $25,000!

Next up for her is Rock, and the choices there are “You Really Got Me” by the Kinks and “Crocodile Rock” by Elton John. She heads for “You Really Got Me”, and five missing words are needed here. They follow after “You got me so”. She sings “I can’t sleep at night” and locks all of that in…she doubles up!

Next category is American Favorites. The choice now is between “Do You Know the Way to San Jose” by Dionne Warwick and “Vacation” by the Go-Gos. Hatchett goes with “Vacation”. This time, the target is six words long. But she draws a blank, so she goes for the multiple choice.

Here are the choices:

A: “Still haven’t forgotten about you yet”
B: “Still have not forgiven you yet”
C: “Still haven’t gotten over you yet”

She locks in C…right to go to $100,000!

Her next category is R & B, and the choices are now “Under the Boardwalk” by the Drifters and “I Got You (I Feel Good)” by James Brown. She goes with the song by the Drifters. Again, six missing words are needed. They follow “On a blanket with…” She completes it with “…my baby is where I’ll be” and locks the answer in…she’s doubled up again, this time to $200,000!

She’s going for a Queen song next. She gets the choice of either “Bohemian Rhapsody” or “Another One Bites the Dust”. She chooses “Bohemian Rhapsody”, and I groaned at that choice, because I think that song might have been too fast for her. Her target is eleven words long. They follow after “Doesn’t really matter to me, to me”. She sings “Mama, just killed a man, put a gun against his head”. She locks them in, and after singing that again with Reid…BULLSEYE!! She’s tied the record with $350,000!

Now, standing between Hatchett and a chance at the MILLION DOLLAR SONG is the category of Classic Rock. The song choices are “Feels Like the First Time” by Foreigner and “Carry On Wayward Son” by Kansas. She goes with the song by Foreigner. She needs to fill in eight missing words. The lyric:

“But now, _____ _____ _____ ______ _______ _______ _______ ______”

She sings nothing, so she needs a backup singer. Believe it or not, it’s not Nathan Reid- it’s Kim! She has “I know that’s not right for me”, but that’ s a word short. Therefore, Hatchett throws in the towel, meaning we now have a three-way share of the winnings record on this show!
