"The Singing Bee" Season 2 Premiere

The opening song sung by Toni Basil was "Hey Mickey"! Mickie James, anyone?

Round 1 now has four players. The first three to sing a correct lyric advances to Round 2.

Kristie, marked #111, was first. Her song was "Whip It" by Devo. The non-target lines are now displayed at the bottom of the screen in white. She sung "Break your mother's back"...not quite.

Malcolm, #213, sung nothing but "Uh na na ha ho whoo!". OK.

Michael, #9, sung the same way as Krystee.

Susie, #1, sung "Break your momma's back"...that's it! The dinger is slightly different.

New song was "The Loco-Motion" by many artists over the years, most recently Kylie Minogue. The target was the last line of the chorus, and Krystee sung "So come on, come on, do the Loco-Motion with me" to get into Round 2!

Next was "I Touch Myself", done by many artists. Malcolm sung "I want you to find me"...close, but no cigar.

Michael sung the line as "I want you behind me"...no. It was "I want you to remind me".

The next song was "Turning Japanese" by The Vapors. Malcolm sung the lyric as "I really think so"...this round was over!

The Round 2 game this time was called "Blind Start". Here, each player heard the opening notes of a song, and then they had to sing the beginning line (s) of that song exactly.

Susie started off with "You Sexy Thing" by Hot Chocolate. She sung "I believe in miracles"...you bet!

Krystee's song was "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell. She sung the opener as "Sometimes, I've feel I've got to run away"...got it!

Malcolm needed to get the opening lyric (s) of "The Safety Dance" by Without Hats. He sung "We can dance if you want to"...game over for him. It was "We can dance if we want to".

Susie's full name was Susie Oh. The Championsip Round remains the same.

Susie's song was "Take on Me" by A Ha. She...was successful, although she screamed out the words so hard, that people had to cover their ears! She's not getting on "American Idol" anytime soon, that's for sure.

Krystee's song..."You Light Up My Life" by Debbie Boone. She was...unsuccessful, so Oh was the first champion of the season!

Now, for The Final Countdown.

First song was "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", orignally done by The Tokens. She sung "The lion sleeps tonight" to get her first $5,000.

Second song was "99 Red Balloons" by Nena. She sung "99 red balloons go by"...2 for 2!

Third up was "Kung Fu Fighting" by Carl Douglas. Her guess was "In fact, it was a little bit frightening"...3 for 3!

Next was "Puttin' on the Ritz" by Taco. She tried "...look like Gary Cooper!"....one away! She can do no worse than $20,000 now!

Can she score the first-ever perfect Final Countdown round? Let's find out.

Next song..."She's Like the Wind" by Patrick Swayze. She sung the target as "She's out of my league"...THAT'S A $50,000 PERFECTO!

She's made history in more ways than one tonight! She'll defend for the first time on the next show!
