It's love songs night on the show.
First up is Ashlee Hewitt with "Cowboy, Take Me Away" by the Dixie Chicks. Jewel liked her understated approach to singing. Jeffrey said this was the Ashlee he loved. John thought she was very comfortable. I gave her a 9!
Second is Gabe Garcia and "Must Be Doing Something Right" by Billy Currington. Jeffrey said he continues to get better and better every week. John thought sometimes the people at the NBC headquarters knew what they were doing when helping choosing this season's contestants on the show, and this was one of those times. Jewel also credited him for introducing a falsetto. I also gave him a 9!
Performing third is Coffey with "It's Your Love" by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. Jeffrey thought he was pitchy, even though it was his best performance. John noted how emotional the performance was, but still thought he wasn't a front runner in the competition. Jewel thought the performance was authentic thanks to the emotion. I gave him a 7 this week.
The last one definitely moving on is current favorite Melissa Lawson, singing "My Baby Loves Me" by Martina McBride. Jewel wasn't impressed with the song choice but thought she did a great job. Jeffrey thought she was over the top. John agreed with Jeffrey. I gave her an 8.
Laura & Sophie are the first act in tonight's bottom two, and they next sing Taylor Swift's latest single, "Picture to Burn". John busted them for rolling their eyes in front of Jewel. Jewel thought they've consistently sung worse and worse every week. Jeffrey thought it was OK, as did I. I gave this performance a 6.
Finally, Shawn Mayer decides that she's got the guts to sing "Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood. Jewel thought she was very comfortable. John thought it was her best performance so far and Jeffrey thought she killed it. I gave her a 9.
The final voting results...
...by a unanimous vote, Laura & Sophie mercifully must leave Nashville for now.
