Brett Faustman, Men Nugyen, Hoyt Corkins and Freddy Deeb continued their quest for almost $900K and an automatic seat in the end-of-season WPT Championship. To be more exact, here were the payouts:
CHAMPION: $892,413
RUNNER-UP: $458,267
3rd: $241,193
4th: $168,835
Corkins and Deeb played the night’s first hand.
Freddy: (AC)(8C)
Hoyt: (JS)(9D)
BASE POT: $280,000
FLOP: (5C)(10C)(3D)
Deeb made an instant club flush draw. Corkins wagered $150,000, while Deeb pushed ALL IN…and Corkins didn’t want to press his luck, so Deeb automatically doubled up to $1.18 million! The same success happened to Nguyen on the next hand, taking him to $1.47 million! New chip count after the first break:
1. Freddy- $1.55 million
2. Hoyt- $1.5 million
3. Men- $1.28 million
4. Brett- $855K
After that, Faustman had the same good fortune as the others did in the past two hands, doubling up to $990K…and then AGAIN to go to seven figures with $1,155,000. Next, Corkins and Nguyen went at it.
Hoyt: (8S)(7H)
Men: NA
BASE POT: 100 grand
FLOP: (KC)(5S)(9C)
Corkins now had a straight draw.
TURN: ACE OF HEARTS
Corkins then bet 50 grand while Nguyen finally revealed his two base cards…
MEN’S BASE CARDS: (9H)(4C)
…he had the lead at this point with a pair of 9s, and then matched the bet.
RIVER: 8 OF DIAMONDS
That gave Nguyen the $200K pot. Corkins tried to fare better in the next hand against Faustman.
Hoyt: (KD)(QC)
Brett: (JD)(8D)
BASE POT: $380K
FLOP: (6S)(5H)(AS)- DUD
Corkins bet a quarter million…which was enough for Faustman to fold, so Corkins won a $630K pot.
Next, Nguyen battled Deeb. I would like to point out that for the second time this episode, Nguyen didn’t reveal his base cards immediately- he must’ve wanted to play some strategy and let the at-home viewers play along with him.
Men: (6D)(2D)
Freddy: (6S)(5H)
BASE POT: $260K
FLOP: (JD)(2S)(7D)
Diamond flush draw on the spot for Nguyen, in addition to double deuces.
TURN: KING OF CLUBS- NO GOOD
Deeb bet 120 large this time and Nguyen matched it.
RIVER: KING OF DIAMONDS- FLUSH!
With that flush, Nguyen won a half million dollar pot. Faustman then went ALL IN against Corkins.
Brett: (AD)(4C)
Hoyt: (AH)(KC)
POT: $1.84 million
FLOP: (2C)(3D)(2H)
Instant straight draw for Faustman.
TURN: 5 OF CLUBS- STRAIGHT!
If the river card was a 4, this would be a split pot…
RIVER: 6 OF DIAMONDS
…no 4, so Faustman doubled up outright to $1.84 million and retook the lead! Rest of the players at this point:
2. Men- $1,435,000
3. Freddy- $1,285,000
4. Hoyt- $625,000
Faustman attempted to build on his success by facing Deeb in the next hand.
Brett: (KH)(9C)
Freddy: (AS)(9D)
BASE POT: $260K
FLOP: (7H)(QC)(7D)- DUD
After both checked…
TURN: 4 OF HEARTS- ANOTHER DUD
…Deeb went with a $120K bet…then Faustman raised to $300K. Deeb…folded, so he got bluffed out and Faustman won the $680K pot. Corkins then won the next hand for $1,025,000 as everyone else folded out.
The next hand saw three-way action.
Brett: (AD)(3D)
Freddy: (AS)(9H)
Men: (JD)(10D)
BASE POT: $220K
FLOP: (7C)(9C)(8H)- NUT STRAIGHT!
Deeb meanwhile had a pair of 9s. Everyone bet $80K except for Faustman, who folded.
TURN: 4 OF HEARTS- DUD
Deeb was now drawing dead. Nguyen put $150K into the pot…as did Deeb.
RIVER: QUEEN OF CLUBS
Now with a Queen high straight, Nguyen won a $1.18 million pot!
Down to only $195K, Deeb went ALL IN against Nguyen.
Men: (AH)(2S)
Freddy: (KC)(6S)
POT: $460K
FLOP: (5D)(KD)(2D)
TURN: 5 OF HEARTS
By getting that King during the flop, Deeb made top pair and at this point had a better two pair. The last card couldn’t be an Ace or Deuce…
RIVER: 7 OF HEARTS
…it was a lucky seven, meaning Deeb doubled up. He tried to do it again against Faustman.
Brett: (AH)(KH)
Freddy: (8D)(7D)
POT: $1.03 million
FLOP: (6H)(4D)(6S)
Instant gutshot straight draw for Deeb.
TURN: 6 OF CLUBS
That river card needed to be a 5, a 7 or an 8 for Deeb to stay alive…
RIVER: 9 OF CLUBS
…no, he was one off. He left with the $168,835 payout.
At the halfway mark, here was the new chip count:
1. Brett- $2,555,000
2. Hoyt- $1.34 million
3. Men- $1.29 million
In the next hand at that point, it was Faustman and Nguyen playing.
Brett: (JC)(7C)
Men: (AH)(8H)
BASE POT: $360K
FLOP: (8S)(10D)(QS)
Instant gutshot straight draw for Faustman. After a double check…
TURN: 9 OF CLUBS- STRAIGHT!
…Faustman made his Queen high straight. However, a Jack on the river would result in a split pot.
RIVER: 4 OF HEARTS
…no tie here, so Faustman won a $480K pot. Nguyen then went ALL IN against Corkins.
Men: (KD)(10D)
Hoyt: (JS)(JC)
POT: $2.3 million
FLOP: (9S)(8H)(3S)
TURN: 7 OF SPADES
Before the river, Nguyen had an open-ended straight draw. He now needed a 6, a Jack or a King that wasn’t in Spades or he lost…
RIVER: QUEEN OF CLUBS
…it was a Queen, so he went home with $241,193.
MONEY PRESENTATION: TRAYS OF MONEY
Here’s the chip count heading into head’s up:
Brett: $2,645,000
Hoyt: $2.54 million
The first hand:
Hoyt: (AS)(QC)
Brett: (5C)(4C)
BASE POT: $540K
FLOP: (9C)(5D)(2C)
Instant flush draw for Faustman, in addition to a pair of 5s. That prompted Corkins to bet $400K, and Faustman pushed ALL IN. Needless to say, Corkins folded and Faustman increased his leading total to $3,315,000! Second hand:
Brett: (KS)(7S)
Hoyt: (8S)(4D)
POT: $140K
FLOP: (KH)(3S)(6H)
Faustman now had top pair. Corkins bet 80 large but Faustman answered with a $280K raise. That caused Corkins to fold, resulting in another $500K in chips going to Faustman. Hand #3:
Hoyt: (AD)(3S)
Brett: (QD)(10S)
BASE POT: $140K
FLOP: (JC)(6H)(8S)
Straight draw for Faustman.
TURN: JACK OF SPADES
Faustman wagered $90K as did Corkins.
RIVER: 9 OF SPADES- STRAIGHT!
Despite a straight, Faustman had to settle for a $320K pot. The new chip count after the break:
1. Brett- $3,215,000
2. Hoyt- $1.97 million
Next hand:
Hoyt: (QS)(10H)
Brett: (10D)(4C)
BASE POT: $140K
FLOP: (5C)(KD)(6H)- DUD
TURN: 7 OF SPADES
Now, an open-ended straight draw came up for Faustman, and he threw in $80K to the pot. But Corkins proceeded to raise to $580K…and Faustman folded, meaning he got bluffed out and Corkins won an $800K pot. Next:
Brett: (AD)(10D)
Hoyt: (QC)(10H)
BASE POT: $320K
FLOP: (5H)(8C)(5C)
TURN: 4 OF CLUBS
Corkins now had a flush draw. But both still checked.
RIVER: DEUCE OF CLUBS- FLUSH!
That flush got Corkins a pot worth…520 grand. After the break, the new chip count:
1. Brett- $2,635,000
2. Hoyt- $2.55 million
And the next hand:
Hoyt: (9H)(5D)
Brett: DOUBLE ACES (Spades and Hearts)
BASE POT: $140K
FLOP: (5H)(6S)(6H)
Both had two pair now, but Faustman still led thanks to his Aces. After a $60K bet by Corkins, Faustman unleashed a 200 grand raise. Corkins then re-raised to triple that amount…and Faustman went for it by betting the other 400 grand.
TURN: 7 OF HEARTS
Corkins now had a straight flush draw! Faustman also had a flush draw.
RIVER: 4 OF HEARTS- FAUSTMAN FLUSH!
With that Ace of Hearts to begin with, Faustman won a $1.74 million pot! Next, please:
Brett: (7H)(2H)
Hoyt: (JD)(8H)
BASE POT: $420K
FLOP: (8S)(QH)(3C)
Middle pair for Corkins.
TURN: 6 OF CLUBS- DUD
Faustman was drawing dead, and he wisely folded after a $180K bet by Corkins, for a total pot this hand of 600 large. The new chip count after the break:
1. Brett- $2,605,000
2. Hoyt- $2.58 million
Next hand:
Brett: (KD)(4S)
Hoyt: (6D)(2H)
BASE POT: $180K
FLOP: (8C)(QC)(6H)
Corkins got a pair of 6s to start.
TURN: 2 OF DIAMONDS
Corkins now had two pair, leaving Faustman drawing dead once again. Faustman attempted a bluff with a $180K bet..but Corkins then made an $800K raise…and that was enough to make Faustman fold, so Corkins won the $1.16 million pot and took over the lead! Let’s see if he could build on that momentum in the next hand:
Hoyt: (8D)(3S)
Brett: (KC)(QC)
BASE POT: $180K
FLOP: (3H)(2H)(3D)
Instant triple 3s for Corkins. Both bet $80K here.
TURN: 9 OF HEARTS
Faustman was drawing dead for the third hand in a row, but continued to try by wagering 200 grand…Corkins matched that.
RIVER: ACE OF DIAMONDS
Corkins took down another pot, this time at $740K. Next:
Brett: DOUBLE DEUCES (Spades and Diamonds)
Hoyt: (7C)(2H)
BASE POT: $180K
FLOP: (AS)(9H)(2C)
Faustman now had triple 2s. All the deuces were now gone, and both bet $80K.
TURN: 3 OF SPADES
Faustman bet $140K, while Corkins raised to 600K…and Faustman pushed ALL IN, and with an immediate fold by Corkins, Faustman stayed in contention with a pot win of $2,735,000! We move on to this hand:
Brett: (7S)(3H)
Hoyt: (JD)(5D)
POT: $180K
FLOP: (2S)(JS)(KH)
Corkins made middle pair.
TURN: 6 OF DIAMONDS- WORTHLESS
Faustman was drawing dead for the fourth time in five hands. After an 80K bet by Corkins, Faustman raised to a quarter million…AND CORKINS FOLDED SO HE GOT BLUFFED OUT BIG TIME, giving a $510K pot to Faustman! He then won the next hand for $380K…
…AND HE HELD ON FOR THE VICTORY!! By far, the tightest head’s up action I’ve seen all season long! His winning hand, just for the record:
Hoyt: DOUBLE DEUCES (Hearts and Clubs)
Brett: DOUBLE QUEENS (Spades and Diamonds)
FLOP: (9H)(3C)(9C)
TURN: 6 OF SPADES
RIVER: JACK OF SPADES
The amateur wrestler did it, taking home the near $900K jackpot!
