"World Poker Tour"- WPT World Ladies Championship

Up until now, the WPT has always held just one female-exclusive event each season. Beginning this season, that changes. In addition to the Ladies' Night Out event earlier this season, tonight is the inaugural WPT World Ladies Championship at the Bellagio. The opening chip count:

1. Vanessa Selbst- $182,200
2. Nancy Todd Tyner- $107,400
3. Donna Varlotto- $68,600
4. Van Nguyen- $42,300
5. Janice Kim- $32,900
6. Cindy Kerslake- $16,400

Kim won the first pot as her ALL IN bet was enough to make everyone else fold, taking her to $43,400. Hand #2:

Donna: (KC)(JD)
Vanessa: (AC)(JS)

BASE POT: $14,000
THE FLOP: (KS)(2D)(3H)

Top pair for Varlotto. She bets $12K and wins a $26K pot as Selbst folds afterwards. Kerslake got the third pot with an ALL IN bet, taking her to $20,300.

Early on in hand #4, Nguyen goes ALL IN, and sure enough, with the pot jumping to $43,600, nobody else jumps on the chance, so she gets that pot. We then move to three-way action on the fifth hand.

Van: (KC)(JH)
Donna: (KS)(9S)
Vanessa: (10D)(7H)

BASE POT: $16,800
THE FLOP: (6D)(AC)(KH)

Middle pair for both Nguyen and Varlotto. The chip leader bets $6,700...the other two fold, so she wins the pot at $23,500.

Next, Kerslake puts her tournament life on the line against Selbst.

Vanessa: (6C)(3H)
Cindy: (9H)(3C)

POT: $17,000
THE FLOP: (2C)(6S)(9C)

Both made their best pair.

TURN: JACK OF HEARTS

If the next card is not a 6, Kerslake doubles up for the second time tonight...

RIVER: 3 OF DIAMONDS

...yes. Here's the next hand.

Janice: (4D)(3D)
Vanessa: (AH)(4H)

BASE POT: $17,500
THE FLOP: (KH)(2C)(JH)

Flush draw for the chip leader, with both players 3/5 toward a straight. After Kim bets eight grand, Selbst bets 100 grand! If Kim calls now, she would be ALL IN...no, so Selbst adds on to her lead with a $125,500 pot! The new chip count at the 30 minute mark:

1. Vanessa- $236K
2. Nancy Todd- $106K
3. Donna- $36,500
4. Janice- $33,500
5. Cindy- $22,500
6. Van- $15,500

Kim then goes ALL IN on the next hand against Selbst.

Janice: DOUBLE 9s (Hearts and Spades)
Vanessa: DOUBLE 6s (Hearts and Spades)

POT: $72,000
THE FLOP: (AH)(JS)(4S)- DUD
TURN: 4 OF CLUBS- ANOTHER DUD

Kim needs to dodge a 6...

RIVER: JACK OF HEARTS

...she does to double up for a second time tonight. Then, it's Nguyen's turn to go ALL IN.

Nancy Todd: (QD)(JD)
Van: (AH)(7D)

POT: $36,500
THE FLOP: (AS)(QH)(6C)

Nguyen leads, but Tyner made a big pair as well.

TURN: 10 OF SPADES

Nguyen needs to avoid a Jack, a Queen or a King on the river to stay in the running...

RIVER: QUEEN OF CLUBS

...sadly, another lady appears on the board, so Nguyen leaves with $6,495. Varlotto is the next one ALL IN.

Donna: (AS)(QH)
Nancy: (AC)(KD)

POT: $74K
THE FLOP: (10C)(JD)(3C)

With two Queens folded before the ALL IN situation came about, Varlotto so needed the 10 and the Jack to get a straight possibility (both have a Broadway Straight draw, to be exact).

TURN: QUEEN OF CLUBS- STRAIGHT!

Tyner made her straight, but Varlotto could still salvage a tie if the King of Hearts appears on the river...

RIVER: 3 OF HEARTS

...doesn't happen, so Varlotto leaves in fifth place with $8,350.

Halftime chip count:

1. Vanessa- $219,500
2. Nancy Todd- $145K
3. Janice- $51K
4. Cindy- $34,500

I believe either Selbst or Tyner is most likely to win this thing at this point.

On the next hand at this point, Selbst blitzed her way to a $58K pot. We then get our second dose of three-way action on the night with the next hand.

Nancy: (9H)(7H)
Vanessa: (QC)(JS)
Cindy: DOUBLE QUEENS (Diamonds and Hearts)

BASE POT: $38K
THE FLOP: (8C)(2C)(AH)- DUD
TURN: 10 OF SPADES

Selbst has a Broadway Straight draw and a Queen-high straight draw. She then tries to make the other two fold by betting 25 grand...well, Tyner sticks around, knowing that she has an open-ended straight draw.

RIVER: 7 OF DIAMONDS

No straight for anybody, but Tyner takes the lead with a pair of 7's...and they hold up to give her an $88K pot. She is now within $3,000 of Selbst, $198,500-$195,500.

Selbst then tries to get rid of Kerslake on this next hand.

Vanessa: (AH)(3H)
Cindy: (AD)(JH)

POT: $51K
THE FLOP: (KC)(JC)(5D)- DUD
TURN: 10 OF CLUBS

At this point, Selbst can only hope for a split pot. That will happen only if a Queen appears as the river card...

RIVER: QUEEN OF DIAMONDS

...there it is! Kerslake then doubles up to $33K after the next hand. The top two in chips battle it out in the next hand.

Nancy: (AS)(QD)
Vanessa: (QH)(4S)

BASE POT: $28K
THE FLOP: (5H)(3S)(KC)- DUD

Both then bet $12K.

TURN: JACK OF SPADES

Tyner now has a Broadway Straight draw. Selbst tries to stop her from going on by betting $21K...but Tyner matches the bet.

RIVER: 6 OF CLUBS

Tyner hangs on for a $94K pot and takes over the lead! New chip count at this point:

1. Nancy Todd- $241,500
2. Vanessa- $152,500
3. Cindy- $30K
4. Janice- $26K

Kim goes ALL IN next against Selbst, now the former chip leader.

Janice: (JD)(8S)
Vanessa: (AD)(8D)

POT: $55K
FLOP: (6C)(AH)(KD)

Selbst has double Aces.

TURN: 4 OF CLUBS; JANICE ELIMINATED
RIVER: 4 OF DIAMONDS

Kim leaves with $11,125. Two hands later, Kerslake may be joining her.

Vanessa: DOUBLE 4s (Hearts and Spades)
Cindy: (KD)(9D)

POT: $67,500
FLOP: (QC)(7H)(7S)
TURN: ACE OF DIAMONDS

To double up, Kerslake is looking for a 9, a King, a Queen or an Ace...

RIVER: 3 OF DIAMONDS

...NO. She leaves as the second runner-up tonight with $20,405.

MONEY PRESENTATION: Bowls with pink coverings

HEAD'S UP CHIP COUNT:

Nancy Todd- $234K
Vanessa- $216K

First hand in the final round:

Nancy: (QH)(JS)
Vanessa: (7D)(4C)

BASE POT: $17K
FLOP: (7H)(4S)(9H)

Selbst pairs both her base cards, and with an $11K bet, she makes the other fold, for a winning pot of $28K. Hand #2:

Vanessa: (7S)(6S)
Nancy: (AS)(6C)

BASE POT: $29K
FLOP: (QS)(9C)(9S)

Instant spade flush draw for Selbst. After Tyner bets $12K, Selbst raises to $34K...Tyner goes for it.

TURN: 7 OF DIAMONDS

Selbst has two pair once again.

RIVER: JACK OF HEARTS- DUD

Does Selbst survive a $25K bet by Tyner...YES, so she wins the pot at $147K and takes the lead back! One more big pot win should win the tourney for her.

Tyner goes ALL IN on the next hand. Does Selbst bite...no, so Tyner moves up to $168K. Next hand:

Nancy: (JD)(6C)
Vanessa: (KC)(9S)

BASE POT: $32K
FLOP: (AS)(7D)(6D)

Low pair for Tyner. Selbst bets $18K to augument the pot to fifty grand and Tyner matches that bet.

TURN: JACK OF CLUBS

Tyner now has two pair and Selbst is drawing dead.

RIVER: 10 OF DIAMONDS

Tyner takes down the $93K pot. This next hand is a big one.

Vanessa: (8D)(7D)
Nancy: DOUBLE KINGS (Diamonds and Hearts)

BASE POT: $112K
FLOP: (2D)(3H)(6S)- WORTHLESS

Tyner then bets 30 large...and Selbst folds, so Tyner scores a very important $142K pot win and is back in the lead! Next hand:

Nancy: (AD)(10D)
Vanessa: (10C)(8C)

BASE POT: $64K (Hal March, anyone?)
FLOP: (9D)(AC)(10H)

That flop's great news for Tyner- she has the top two pair.

TURN: 6 OF SPADES

Both bet 20 grand.

RIVER: QUEEN OF CLUBS

Both bet another 20 grand afterwards, meaning Tyner wins a $144K pot and she has this wrapped up...or does she? In the last segment of the show, the chip count reads like this:

1. Nancy- $228K
2. Vanessa- $222K

That means whoever wins the next hand will win this tournament. Here's the next hand:

Nancy: (KH)(4D)
Vanessa: (10C)(4C)

BASE POT: $18K
FLOP: (7S)(6S)(10H)

Selbst has top pair...both call for $9,000.

TURN: 8 OF DIAMONDS

A gutshot straight draw is now on the board.

The last card is...

RIVER: KING OF DIAMONDS

...a King, meaning NANCY TODD TYNER HANGS ON TO BECOME THE FIRST WPT WORLD LADIES' CHAMPION!!! Last hand of the night, just for the record:

Vanessa: (AS)(2H)
Nancy: (AH)(KD)

FLOP: (3D)(5D)(3H)
TURN: QUEEN OF HEARTS
RIVER: KING OF DIAMONDS

Our champ, a political consultant, takes home $68,640 for her winning efforts. Selbst leaves with $40,815.
