While he was training, George Roop injured one of his hands, putting his spot in the last lightweight quarterfinal fight in jeopardy.
The final decision on him...
...he will continue.
LAST LIGHTWEIGHT QUARTERFINAL: George Roop vs. John Polakowski
Referee: Steve Mazzagatti
Round 1: After some mutual respect at the beginning, Roop gets off to a solid start. Near the end of the first 90 seconds, Roop scores a takedown. A little later, Polakowski attempts a triangle choke on Roop against the cage, but comes up empty. Just into the beginning of the last two minutes, Roop's on Polakowski and he's trying to lock in a rear-naked choke...he gets it, but can't make Polakowski tap out. I definitely give this round 10-9 in favor of Roop.
Round 2: Polakowski's ahead after the first minute. By the end of the second minute, Roop takes down Polakowski. Later, with 1:45 to go, Roop tries again with the rear-naked choke...he never gets the submission win, but he wins by unanimous decision anyway.
