"American Idol"- EIGHTH SEASON PREMIERE

I apologize for being late on the "American Idol" recaps this season, but better late than never.

As you know, with Kara DioGuardi joining the judges table, auditioners only needed two "Yes" votes from the judges table to make it to Hollywood (thus, tie votes benefited the auditioners). Hence, if somebody got at least three "No" votes, that's three strikes and they were out.

This was my first episode in HD. First stop on this season's audition tour was Phoenix.

GOOD:
Emily Wynne-Hughes (L.A.)
J.B. Ahfua (Taylorsville, UT)
Arianna Afsar (San Diego; last Day 1 qualifier)
Stevie Wright (Phelan, CA)
Michael Sarver (Jasper, TX)
Katrina Darrell (Chino Hills, CA)(wearing nothing but a bikini!)
Deanna Brown (Louisville)
Cody Sheldon (Detroit)(horror film worker)
Alexander Wagner-Trugman (Studio City)
Scott Macintyre (Scottsdale, AZ)

BARELY MADE IT (got the minimum two "Yes" votes):
Brianna Quijada (Tempe, AZ)

CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR:
Tuan Nguyen (Spring Valley, CA)(had an afro)
Randy Madden (Moorpark, CA)(very emotional guy)
Lea Marie Golde (L.A.)(Kara DioGuardi's big fan)
Eric Thomas (Phoenix)(had Mark Henry's former nickname "Sexual Chocolate"; mother wanted to buy him a car in the event he didn't get through)

MAJOR LEAGUE STRIKEOUTS:
Michael Gurr (Mesa, AZ)(too nervious and extremely crappy voice)
Will Kunick (Garfield, NJ)(butchered "Tears For Fears")
D.J. Bradley (Seattle)(bombed Celine Dion's "It's All Coming Back To Me Now")
Shawn Vasquez (Oakland, CA)(sounded too fake singing Dionne Warwick's "I'll Never Love This Way Again")
Andre "X-Ray" Caraway (Phoenix)(only danced well)
Elijah Scarlett (Phoenix)(too deep of a voice)

Ten made it through from here on Day 1, while 17 made it from Day 2.
