4/16/2009 Results- BARKER RETURNS TO "TPIR"!

TPIR: Today's the day, folks! Episode 4701K begins with Erin Browski, Lindsey Adams, Pamela Burton and Lana Newman. The first IUFB is a 12-foot outdoor theater system featuring a selection of Blu-Ray movies (Manuela).

Lana: $999
Pamela: $2,000
Lindsey: $2,100
Erin: $1,200

ARP: $3,576

Don't look now, Bob- Lindsey's playing Lucky $even for a Honda Accord LX-S (Std., AT, Link, Tray, EBH)(Rachael). First number is 2. Her second number guess is 4...

$ 2 3 , _ _ _

...costs her a buck. For the middle digit, she says 7...

$ 2 3 , 9 _ _

...that costs her two bucks that time. Some people want her to go with 0, but she goes with 5 for the fourth digit...

$ 2 3 , 9 1 _

...she's broke; she should've listened to those insane folks. ARP: $23,916.

Fifth is Goldie Saggert and the second IUFB is a Blackberry device (Drew).

Goldie: $1,200
Erin: $1,500
Lana: $499
Pamela: $6,000 (STAGE WILLY)

ARP: $2,080

Erin, a substitute teacher, plays Punch a Bunch (with a new $25K bill held by Gwendolyn). Today's SPs are modeled by Rachael.

3. Digital picture frame
IS NOT: $280
PICK: LOWER- $240

4. VCR 2 PC converter box
IS NOT: $150
PICK: HIGHER- $200

I would've only gotten the digital picture frame correct, so good for her in getting all four punches. She punches out holes #24, #18, #47 and #3. We start with #24...$100. She throws that away for #18's contents...down to $50. #47 has...nothing more, so she must take what's in #3...she ends up with ten times the money, $500, in addition to all of those nice SPs.

Coming on down sixth is Joshua Burke and the third IUFB is a gold/silver chain necklace being worn by Manuela.

Joshua: $800
Lana: $3,000
Pamela: $1,800
Goldie: $2,100

ARP: $2,195

Goldie from Cleveland plays Super Squeeze Play for a cruise of the French Canals (Rachael at the audience screen). Board:

182562

I would take the 8 out (the audience's agreeing with me), but she decides to remove the 5 instead...

$ 1 8 , 2 6 2

...take that, audience (and yours truly)!

SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN #1:
Erin ($3,400): 50 + 60 = OVER
Lindsey ($3,576): 55 + 90 = OOPS
Goldie ($20,457): WINS BY DEFAULT AT $.60!

Next from the big audience is Luann Seidetz and the fourth IUFB is a deluxe BBQ grill (Gwen).

Luann: $740
Joshua: $1,200
Lana: $1,500
Pamela: $550

ARP: $1,999

Lana plays One Right Price for a motorcycle (Gwen) and designer clothing (Manuela). After Rachael displays the ORP of $3,359, Lana guesses the motorcycle...but that's just $2,449.

Going to the red spot now is Rebekah Cherniss and the next IUFB is a Sony HD camera coming down from the ceiling.

Rebekah: $700
Pamela: $1,900
Luann: $1,500
Joshua: $1,501

ARP: $1,100

Rebekah, who just lost a teaching job, plays Plinko; when is the last time, if ever, that we've had two cash/SP games played in the same episode in daytime? Anyway, the SPs this time are modeled by Gwen.

1. Roll-up keyboard
IS NOT: $89
PICK: 9- $80

2. Estee Lauder mascara
IS NOT: $39
PICK: 9- $32

3. Heart-shaped alarm clock
IS NOT: $73
PICK: 3- $43

4. "Star Trek" Collector's Series PEZ dispensers
IS NOT: $30
PICK: 0- $20

The two additional Plinko Chips are brought to her by Rachael.

1. $1,000 (Left)
2. $10,000
3. $1,000 (Right)

12 grand is hers from the Plinko board!

Rich then pops up on our screens to call on David Howard and the final IUFB is a car sound system (Manuela). Pamela's been here since this episode began.

David: $1,000
Pamela: $595
Luann: $1,150
Joshua: $1,250

ARP: $1,698

TODAY'S FIRST FOUR BREAKFAST CLUB MEMBER: Pamela

Joshua, the president of his college's "TPIR" fan club, plays Let Em' Roll for a Honda Fit and an $800 Shell gas card (Gwen), all worth $16,350. Today's groceries are modeled by Rachael- Hot Pockets (regular flavor), dessert mix and Glad trash bags. After the Hot Pockets are revealed to be $2.49, he goes with Higher for the dessert mix...$4.29. He then says Higher again for the trash bags...$8.79, so he has three rolls.

1. CAR/CAR/CAR/$500/$1,500- CONTINUES
2. $500/$1,000- CONTINUES
3. WINNER!

Today's Pricing Game lineup is probably Adam's best yet!

SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN #2:
Lana ($1,999): $.60
Rebekah ($13,163): $.70
Joshua ($18,048): 30 + 70 = WINS $1,000 AND SHOWCASE BERTH!

Joshua's Bonus Spin gets him...35 cents, so because of that big trip Goldie won in Squeeze Play, he'll have to settle for the Runner-Up spot in today's Showcase.

And now, here comes Bob Barker from one of the Big Doors to open up the first Showcase!!! After the audience gets the surprise that they're all getting copies of his book "Priceless Memories: Bob Barker", any proceeds from that book will be donated to the DJ&T Foundation! That book's also the first prize in this Showcase. Second, Drew tells us that you can buy more copies of that book with a new iMac computer system (Manuela). Third, if you can't wait to buy a copy, go to its publisher's home base in NYC (Gwen at the audience screen; features a half hour helicopter tour). Finally, load some of the book's copies in a new Honda Ridgeline RT (Manuela)! This is the first time since Drew took over as host that a Honda automobile is offered in a Showcase!

WOF: The first Toss-Up category of the evening is Place:

L E _ T _ R E

H A L _

This is typically boring, but not according to Lindsey- LECTURE HALL for $1,000.

$5,000-WINNING ID OF THE NIGHT: CH9426465

Thursday's college contestants:

Lindsey Olson- UCLA senior studying Psychology and Mass Communications; aspiring law school student
Amy Lavigne (Wellington, FL)- University of Miami, FL sophomore studying Political Science
Cedric Loiseau (Freeport, NY)- Howard University senior; also a substitute teacher and a college radio station worker

$2,000 Toss-Up category is Phrase:

C A L _ Y O U R

_ O _ H E _

Cedric, you might want to CALL YOUR MOTHER, because you just won $2,000!

After a $5,000 trip to Universal Orlando goes on the wheel, What Are You Doing? turns out to be the category for Round 1. Cedric starts with a G for that trip. But after lots of work, he later buys the only dud vowel on the board (A), possibly costing him that prize and $3,200. Lindsey then calls a $300 N for the Free Spin. She then triples up with two P's, but then calls a dud in K, so she uses her Free Spin and buys the puzzle's only U to finish out the round's vowels. After a second or two, she decides to try and solve...

_ I _ I N G U P T H E

C O M P E T I T I O N

...and she does with SIZING UP THE COMPETITION to tie up the game at two grand apiece.

DUDS: A (Cedric), K (Lindsey)

Campbell's Jackpot/Prize Puzzle Round category is Fun & Games. Early on, Lindsey loses $2,650 to a Bankrupt. After Amy calls the N's, we have...

S T R E _ _ _ N _

_ _ E R T H E

_ _ E _ N _ N

_ _ E T S _ _

...I think I know it, but I'm not sure. After a $300 G, she buys the I's and calls a pair of K's for another $800. Following a $300 C, she buys the O's and we now have...

S T R E _ K I N G

O _ E R T H E

O C E _ N O N

_ _ E T S K I

...in addition to $3,250, she will be STREAKING OVER THE OCEAN ON A JET SKI during her trip to the Hilton Papagayo Resort in Costa Rica, a total of $9,350 in cash and trip.

BANKRUPT: Lindsey
UNWON JACKPOT: $8,300

WINNING ID FOR TRIP: NS9526304

V8 Mystery Round category is Before & After. Amy duds out immediately with S. A little bit after calling the N, Cedric loses his turn by repeating it. Lindsey then lands on the Mystery Wedge next to Lose a Turn and calls an R. She flips...but she gets her second Bankrupt of the night. Here's the board after Amy buys the A's:

_ A C _ L _ _

L _ _ N _ E

L _ _ A R _

She then calls a $900 Y but then calls her second dud of the round with H. Cedric then loses $1,150 to a Bankrupt. Lindsey then calls another dud, M. Amy then calls a $900 D and buys the O in the middle word, she calls her third dud this round, K. Cedric then calls the F for $900, the Z to go to $1,300...

F A C _ L _ Y

L O _ N _ E

L _ Z A R D

...and he solves FACULTY LOUNGE LIZARD to move to $3,300.

DUDS: H (Amy), K (Amy), M (Lindsey), S (Amy)
DQ: Cedric (repeated the N)
BANKRUPTS: 2 (Lindsey, Cedric)

$3,000 Toss-Up category is Food & Drink:

G O L D _ I S H

C _ _ _ _ _ _ S

Cedric solves GOLDFISH CRACKERS to close in on Amy with a new total of $6,300. Speed-Up Round category is Thing and consonants are worth $1,600 apiece. Amy calls the E's late in the round but she can't solve to seal the deal with another $3,200. Cedric then calls a critical dud in C. Lindsey then calls the K at the bottom...

G R E E K

_ L _ H _ _ E T

...and she solves GREEK ALPHABET for another $4,800 and a final second-place total of $6,800. Cedric leaves with $6,300 and Amy hangs on with $9,350 in cash and trip.

So far, just $22,450 in cash and trip has been given away tonight.

DUDS: C (Cedric), D (Cedric), N (Cedric), S (Lindsey)

Big Money Round: Can Amy somehow make history happen tonight with the week's second $100,000 win? Let's find out. She spins the ampersand and the category is Phrase. Starting with:

_ _ _ N T _

T _ E _ _ R E

She calls H, C, M and O and gets...

_ O _ N T O

T H E _ _ R E

...this bonus round didn't come DOWN TO THE WIRE, because she didn't say a thing, so she's the lowest-winning champion of the season (second week a row that's happened). I hope she didn't just also cost us any chance at making history tonight...

...no, she is actually the week's second contestant to miss out on $25,000. The producers are quite happy over what happened tonight after what happened on Tuesday.

Jeopardy!: Last night, Kevin Joyce set a new season-high one-day regular game score with $49,699! Can he keep up that momentum tonight and become the first contestant in weeks to win on back-to-back regular episodes? Let's find out against:

John Blanton (Brooklyn, NY)- Newspaper editor
Monica Butler (Madison, WS)

Opening categories:

THE COLD WAR
UNWRITTEN DINING-OUT RULES
COMMON BONDS
POPCORN COLONELS
THE NATURE BEAST
BODY ENGLISH

The champ gets the first Cold War, but after Blanton gets the second, he finds the Daily Double under the third clue there and tries to double the $400 he just earned with this clue:

In a speech in Missouri in 1946, Winston Churchill declared that this division had fallen between East & West.

"What is an iron curtain?"...that doubles him up. At the first break, Joyce now leads with $3,400. Butler's a grand behind him and Blanton hasn't made any progress since getting the night's first DD correct. When the round's over...

Kevin: $6,200
Monica: $4,800
John: $2,400

...for now, the champ's definitely not as dominant as he was yesterday.

ATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $2,400
UNATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $1,400
TOTAL LACH TRASH: $3,800

DJ! Categories:

THE "COLD" WAR
BAND OF BROTHERS
SHAKESPEAREAN CHARACTERS
I LED THAT CABINET DEPARTMENT
A COUNTRY OF CENTRAL AMERICA
GIVE ME SOME DIRECTION

Near the midway part of this round, Blanton discovers the round's first DD under the $1,600 Central America clue. He's in the middle of a pretty tight match this evening, as he now has $7,200, while Butler has $8,400 and the champ leads for the time being with $9,800. His next DD wager is two grand.

It's the only Central American country with English as an official language.

"What is Belize?"...right to get within $600 of the lead ($9,200)! A little later, Joyce finds the other DD under the $800 Give Me Some Direction clue with $12,200; Blanton's now back to $7,200. His wager is $9,200. This clue probably will make him or break him. Here it is:

Birds use these, also called thermal columns, to soar higher in a circular pattern.

"What are updrafts?"...RIGHT to soar to $21,400!

ATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $8,800
UNATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $2,000
TOTAL DJ! LACH TRASH: $10,800

SCORES AFTER DOUBLE JEOPARDY!:

Kevin: $25,800 (lock game!)
Monica: $9,600
John: $9,200

CORYAT SCORES:

Kevin: $17,400
Monica: $9,600
John: $9,000

Kevin Joyce has a chance to add a little over $30K to his winnings in tonight's FJ!

FJ! CATEGORY: American Buisness.

On September 29, 2008, every stock in the S&P 500 dropped except this maker of comforting food, founded in 1869.

Correct: What is Campbell's?

JOHN:
Response: "What is Hormel?"
Wager: $9,000
Final score: $200

MONICA:
Response: "What is Campbell's?"
Wager: $350
Final score: $9,950

The champ...

...gets it right also, but only wagered $800 tonight. Where was that gambling spirit he just showed late in DJ!? Still, he wins another $26,600 tonight, giving him a nice two-day total of $76,299!

Catch 21: Can one of these three players continue the streak of having all four Power Chips in play for Triple Blackjack? Let's find out.

Matthew Conn (originally from Vermont)
Meg Duffy (Atlanta)- Animation lady
Tommy River (originally from Great Falls, VA)

ROUND 1 BASE CARDS:

Matthew: 9 OF DIAMONDS
Meg: 7 OF HEARTS
Tommy: 2 OF HEARTS

After getting the first question about the Dell's "E", Matthew gets a 10 of Hearts and immediately freezes at 19. A little later, here are the hands for the other two players:

Meg: (7H)(JD)(3C) = 20 (100)
Tommy: (2H)(6H)(AH) = 9 or 19 (300)

6. Diane Keaton shed every piece of clothing in which production?

A: "Annie Hall"
B: "Something's Gotta Give"
C: "The Godfather"

Meg: "Something's Gotta Give"- CORRECT (200); FREEZES AT 20

Tommy:
6. ACE OF CLUBS (10 or 20)
7. 7 OF SPADES (17)
8. JACK OF HEARTS- MEG WINS (700)

ROUND 2 BASE CARDS:

Matthew: 9 OF HEARTS
Meg: KING OF HEARTS
Tommy: 6 OF SPADES

For the second round in a row, Matthew immediately freezes after getting the first question of a round correct; after knowing that the original Miss America locale was Atlantic City (Meg rang in first but missed with Las Vegas); he got an Ace of Spades this time to freeze at 20. He was unsure about his decision, though; should he not win this round, he'll be eliminated.

Meg & Tommy then trade the next two questions; Meg passes to Tommy a Deuce of Clubs while Tommy passes back to her a 6 of Clubs. Tommy then busts her with a 9 of Clubs, but with 800 points, she'll still be in the Championship Round.

TOMMY:
5. JACK OF SPADES (18)
6. QUEEN OF CLUBS- ELIMINATED AT 500 POINTS

Well, the four Power Chip streak's now over.

CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND BASE CARDS:

Matthew: 8 OF CLUBS
Meg: 7 OF DIAMONDS

Matthew gets the round's first query right to take a 4 of Diamonds, preventing Meg from getting an early 11; Meg then answers correctly on the second one to keep a 5 of Spades and tie things up at 12 apiece as we head to this next question:

3. What is Donald Duck's middle name?

Matthew: Scrooge- NO WAY

Choices for Meg:

A: Bill
B: Quackster
C: Fauntleroy

Meg: Fauntleroy- CORRECT

If she gets a 9, a 10 or a face card next, she's won the game and earns the right to take three Power Chips to the endgame...

CARD: QUEEN OF HEARTS

...there we go! First time this season, BTW, that the vacuum goes unclaimed in an episode.

TRIPLE BLACKJACK:

OPENING CARDS:

HAND #1: 2 OF DIAMONDS
HAND #2: 9 OF SPADES
HAND #3: 4 OF DIAMONDS

(Note: This is the first episode this season the Power Chips are not sponsored by Burger King.)

1. 9 OF CLUBS; PLACES IN HAND #1 (11)

2. 6 OF CLUBS; PLACES IN HAND #3 (10)

3. QUEEN OF SPADES; HAND #1 CLEARED ($1,000)

4. KING OF HEARTS; CHANGES IT (two remaining)

5. KING OF CLUBS; PLACES IN HAND #2 (19)

6. QUEEN OF CLUBS; CHANGES IT (one left)

7. 4 OF SPADES; PLACES IN HAND #3 (14)

She will go on.

8. 10 OF SPADES (all Power Chips gone)

9. 6 OF DIAMONDS, WHICH IS PLACED IN HAND #3 (20)

She will keep going. I hope this gamble works out...

10. 2 OF CLUBS; HAND #2 CLEARED ($5,000)

This time, she stops with $6,000...

FINAL CARD: ACE OF CLUBS

...but she didn't make a great deal.

One thing's for sure: Drew has clearly shown a love of home cooking. The deal with Honda on some shows and the Cavs Showcase were two Buckeye State themes.

Drew being a home-stater and using his old sitcom's Cleveland theme means Ohio cars, Ohio NBA Showcase, and dream packages with E-Ticket rides. He has made the show his own, especially with his thinking outside the box, especially with Bob's Showcase.
