It's going to be really hard to top the excitement of last week's episode, topped off by Tom Dwan's million dollar-plus night, which included the record-breaking $919,600 pot he won over Barry Greenstein.
Tonight, hard luck guy Daniel Negreanu tries to get it going against a batch of seven new players. Since this is a new group of players, the blinds go back to $400/$800 and the antes reset to $200.
The first hand of the night is won in blitz fashion by Patrik Antonius for $24,800 after raising to $15,800 with double Aces. We see the flop for the first time tonight with the second hand:
Phil Laak: DOUBLE 3s (Diamonds & Hearts)
Joe Hachem: (JC)(9C)
Howard Lederer: (AC)(QD)
THE FLOP: (KC)(7D)(6H)- DUD
Lederer comes up with the continuation bet of $6,000, which makes Hachem fold...as does Laak, giving him a $15,500 pot. Here's the third hand:
THE FLOP: (5S)(6H)(2D)
Laak has top pair and an inside straight draw. Antonius bets eight grand, while Laak raises to $25,600. That's enough for the other two to fold, so he's $46,100 richer as we end the first segment of this episode. Now, for hand #4:
Hachem: DOUBLE JACKS (Clubs & Hearts)
Lederer: DOUBLE 10s (Diamonds & Spades)
THE FLOP: (KS)(7S)(6S)
Instant flush draw for Lederer. Both decide to bet $4,500 apiece.
TURN: 5 OF SPADES- LEDERER FLUSH!
After Hachem bets $8,500, Lederer raises another ten grand. Hachem then raises an additional 20 large...AND LEDERER FOLDS, MEANING HE JUST GOT BLUFFED OUT DESPITE HAVING A FLUSH!!! OUCH. That means he just gave up a $74,800 pot to Hachem. On the next hand, we've got five-way action:
Antonio Esfandiari: (KH)(3H)
Nick Cassavetes: (AS)(3S)
THE FLOP: (AD)(QH)(AH)
Great flop for Cassavetes, as he has triple Aces. However, Esfandiari & Laak both have a flush draw; since the Ace of Hearts is on the board, there's the possibility of a split pot if the heart flush occurs. After $2,700 bets by Laak & Hachem, Cassavetes raises to $11,100. Folding are Antonius, Esfandiari, Cassavetes...and Hachem, so Cassavetes averts possible disaster and wins the $22,100 pot. Next:
Hachem: DOUBLE 10s (Clubs & Diamonds)
THE FLOP: (3S)(QC)(6D)
Middle pair is made by Esfandiari. Both bet $5,100 apiece.
TURN: DEUCE OF CLUBS- DUD
After that, Esfandiari bets another $10,200...which Hachem matches in order to see the river.
RIVER: 9 OF CLUBS- ANOTHER DUD
Both check, giving Hachem a $38K pot. On the next hand, Sam Simon of "The Simpsons" fame finally gets in on the action.
Simon: DOUBLE JACKS (Clubs & Spades)
THE FLOP: (7S)(2H)(7C)
Cassavetes has triple 7s this time, while Simon has two pair. Simon then bets ten grand...Cassavetes then raises to $26K, prompting Negreanu to fold once again. Simon then folds as well, so Cassavetes bags a $46,600 pot.
Esfandiari then wins a battle of the small raises against Cassavetes to score a blitz win and a $13,100 pot. Esfandiari then participates in this next hand:
THE FLOP: (6H)(6S)(2S)
Looking good for Esfandiari, as he just made trip 6s. He then unleashes a $12,200 bet to make Hachem fold and add another $31,400 to his winnings this evening. Simon & Laak are then featured in this next hand:
THE FLOP: (8D)(9D)(JC)
There is a good shot at a split pot this round; both have an open-ended straight draw. Simon then shows his aggressive side by betting 30 grand...Laak calls him.
TURN: ACE OF DIAMONDS- DUD
Laak then throws in another $50K to make this the night's biggest pot so far with over $100K on the table...Simon folds here, so Laak wins the $137,200 pot! Simon's in danger of possibly being SKUNKED on the night along with Negreanu. Here's what the next hand brings us:
Hachem: DOUBLE KINGS (Clubs & Spades)
THE FLOP: (KD)(3H)(10C)
Triple Kings for Hachem, while Negreanu has middle pair and Antonius has not much of anything. Antonius folds while the others bet seven grand apiece.
TURN: 4 OF DIAMONDS- NO GOOD
Negreanu's drawing dead at this point. Despite that, he and Hachem both bet an additional $20,500 apiece to the pot.
RIVER: JACK OF DIAMONDS- ANOTHER DUD
Hachem wins this pot for $64,500. Next up:
THE FLOP: (6S)(9C)(7D)
Antonius has double 7s and, like Laak, has an inside straight draw. He doesn't need the straight in this case, though, as his next $7K bet is enough to make the other two fold, so he wins the $15,100 pot. Now, for the night's last hand:
THE FLOP: (10D)(3D)(KS)
Negreanu has a diamond flush draw; he needs to win this hand or else he will feel Pepe Le Pew's wrath once again. Antonius bets $17K...and Negreanu thankfully calls.
TURN: 5 OF HEARTS- DUD
RIVER: QUEEN OF SPADES- BAD NEWS FOR NEGREANU
No flush for Negreanu. He now tries to salvage this hand, and his entire night, by betting $26K...
...ANTONIUS FOLDS, SO NEGREANU WINS THE $84,800 POT AND DOESN'T GET SKUNKED TONIGHT!
