"Great American Road Trip" 8/3

King of the Road Challenge #6: This takes place in Sedona, AZ. While one team member is attached to the vortex, each family has eight minutes to make as many revolutions as they can. When a team member has had enough getting spun, s/he must run to a gong and hit it before the next team member gets put on the vortex. The winners advance to the final three and win a private helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon.

Finishing in last, with 210 spins, are...

...the DiSalvatores (fourth straight trip to the bottom three for them). The first of the teams that will join them, with 259 spins...

...are the Montgomerys (also their fourth time). And now, the winners, by a final tally of 331 to the other family's 307, are...

...the Cootes one more time; that's their fifth challenge win!! That means the Pollards are headed to their first-ever End of the Road Challenge.

END OF THE ROAD CHALLENGE #4: At the Grand Canyon Railway in Williams, AZ, there are four train cars. There are three safes in two of the cars; inside each one is a six-digit combination. Two members of each family will open the safes while their teammates have to yell out the combinations to the safe openers. Once the last safe is open, somebody must hit the red button of a clock to stop the time. The team that takes the longest in opening all the safes is eliminated. The host gives the first combination to each family for free; the other families can't see what's going on with the family who is during their run.

1. DiSalvatores: 7:02 (they get off to a bad start when somebody left out one digit in the very first code)

2. Pollards: 8:55

The Montgomerys' time turns out to be...

...10:55, so they miss out on being in the final three. It also means the DiSalvatores have now won three of these challenges in a row!
