WoF: Let's see if Thursday's episode will continue to up the ante at The Venetian. The $1,000 Toss-Up category is Phrase:

_ L _ _ E / _ O _ R

_ _ T _ !

Shavontae tells those who are gambling on the outcome of tonight's game to "PLACE YOUR BETS!" for the money. Now, let's meet these contestants:

Shavontae Avery (North Las Vegas; originally from Summerville, SC)- A banker who attends the College of Southern Nevada for General Assisting classes
Kris Kilmer (Lake Forest, IL)- Stay-at-home mom
Jon Meeley (Rochester, NH)- Business manager

$2,000 Toss-Up category is Occupation:

G _ _ _ _ _ _

_ E _ I G _ E R

Shavontae triples up with GRAPHIC DESIGNER.

After we hear about an Experience Africa Premier Tour in Botswana worth $10,880, the Eggland's Best Jackpot/Prize Puzzle Round category is Event. She starts by calling two T's for $800, three N's while on Free Play for another $1,500 and buys two U's and an I, but she then hits the Bankrupt next to the $2,500 wedge to lose $1,800. Secondly, Kris does the same thing on the right part of the Million Dollar Wedge. Third, Jon calls a $300 G but then a dud of S.
After Shavontae calls another dud in P, Kris calls two R's for $1,200 but she then duds out with the H while trying to pick up the African Safari. Following that, Jon lights up two E's while on FP and two C's to triple his current $300, but he then spins Lose a Turn. Shavontae's next spin of the wheel lands on the Jackpot Wedge and she puts up two B's. We now have...

R I B B _ N

C U T T I N G

C E R E _ _ N _

...and she's the first Jackpot winner of the season with RIBBON-CUTTING CEREMONY for the $8,950 that was in there, plus another $1,000, for a new cash total of $12,950!

DUDS: H (Kris), $400 P (Shavontae), $450 S (Jon)
SOLE LaT: Jon
BANKRUPTS: 2 (both women)

Time now to introduce the other new category of Season 28- What's This Song? And this is the first one since the 25th Anniversary season to offer a $3,000 bonus question after somebody solves the puzzle. With that happy thought in mind (as well as the fact that it's a big puzzle), Kris gets underway on a sad note by Bankrupting on the same side of the MDW she hit in the Jackpot Round. Second, Jon gets the regular one next to the top dollar space. Third, Shavontae calls four W's for $2,200 and buys six O's and four E's to already clean out the vowels. She then rings in with this board...

_ _ O W / W _ E _ / _ O

_ O _ _ / ' E _

_ _ O W / W _ E _ / _ O

_ O _ _ / ' E _

...she nails "KNOW WHEN TO HOLD 'EM, KNOW WHEN TO FOLD 'EM" to add $1,700, but she blanks out on the song title from where those lyrics came from; it was "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers. But she's still up slightly to $14,650.

BANKRUPTS: 2 (Kris, Jon; this is Kris' second of the night)

Video Bonus: First two main rounds of the night

IHOP Mystery/Prize Puzzle Round category is, you guessed it- What Are You Doing? First, Jon calls four N's for $1,200, buys three I's and five O's, and lights up an obvious G for the Wild Card. But he then loses it all back to the same Bankrupt he got in the last round; that's his second Bankrupt of the evening. After a dud of S by Shavontae, Kris lands on the Mystery Wedge in between FP and LaT and calls three T's. She flips it over...and the 10 grand's behind it!
But next from her is a dud in R. Afterwards, Jon calls a pair of S's for $1,600, buys the E at the end of this puzzle, calls an $800 L and twin P's for the safari, followed by an $800 H and the buying of two A's to close the vowel department for this round. The board now:

P O S T I N G

_ A _ A T I O N

P H O T O S / O N L I N E

He'll be POSTING VACATION PHOTOS ONLINE a lot in the near future, because he just won $2,700, the safari and a second trip to the Aventura Cove Palace in Cancun courtesy of Plesant Holidays worth $5,546, for a total of $19,126 in cash & vacations!

DUDS: $300 R (Kris), $900 S (Shavontae)
SOLE BANKRUPT: Jon

TONIGHT'S SPIN ID: JM5526178 (Jeanette M. from California)

Living Things is the $3K Toss-Up topic:

M _ _ _ T A _ N

L _ _ _ _

Shavontae closes in on Jon by solving MOUNTAIN LIONS for a new total of $17,650!

Last Chance Round subject is In the Kitchen and the consonants are all worth...$6K for the second time this week! After she starts with an S, Jon puts up double L's...

S _ L _ / _ L _ _ _ _ _ _

_ _ _ _

...what is up with these fairly quick solves in this important part of the game? He's locked up the match with another 12 C-notes and $31,126 in cash & travel! Shavontae leaves with $17,650 worth of money and Kris gets the $1K consolation because she didn't have much luck tonight.

So far, $49,776 in cash and vacations have been handed out on this episode!

SOLE DUD: T (Kris)

TONIGHT'S BANKRUPT TRASH (excluding the WC): $1,900

Maxwell House Big Money Round: Jon lost the WC immediately after he picked it up midway in the maingame; let's hope he won't need it now. After he spins the P, he's gotta deal with something in the world of Food & Drink. Starting with:

_ E _ _ E

_ _ / L _ _ E

He calls C, H, F and O and gets...

_ E _ _ E

O F / L _ _ E

...he has NOT had a WEDGE OF LIME lately, so he isn't the second straight $45K winner. At least he has $31,126 in cash & trips.

J!: Even though Roger Craig's a three-time champion with a whopping $138,401, it's still no guarantee he'll make the next Tournament of Champions. But he will move up to second place on the ToC Leaderboard if he wins tonight, and if he should sweep the first week of the season, he'll take over Paul Kursky's place at the top. Tonight's challengers are:

Ruth Anne Stevens-Klitz (Middleburg Heights, OH)- Foreign service officer
Les Taub (NYC)- Training/sportsmanship consultant

Please show us the night's first six categories:

THE 23RD PSALM (all clues are about the King James version)
GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP
SILENCE
"V"
PUSH BY SAFIRE
MAKE IT RIGHT (this is the first category this season with all of its clues being read by the Clue Crew)

Shortly after Les is right on the two higher-valued Good Sportsmanship clues, he finds the Daily Double under the middle Silence clue with $2,600; he leads Ruth Anne by $800 and Roger by $1,200. He wagers $1,500 on this clue:

The type used for a trumpet or sax is more familiar, but string instruments can also be muffled with this device.

"What is a mute?"...also an option you can find on many multimedia devices, that's correct to move him up to $4,100! At the end of the first round, it's quite ironic that our champion, who's currently in second place with $4,200 (after an incorrect response of his on an $800 clue is later deemed acceptable), sees somebody else in Lock Game Territory- it's Les tonight with $9,900. Ruth Anne meanwhile has $2,200.

SOLE TS OF THE ROUND: $1K (Silence; attempted)

DJ! Subjects:

WORLD LEADERS
THE TREES WERE ANGRY THAT DAY, MY FRIENDS

Mr. Craig runs into DD #1 at the end of the Dow Jones Industrial Average Companies, and he's back in tonight's game with $7K; he's $3,300 behind Taub for first place, while Ruth Anne stands at $3,400. He wagers...EVERYTHING. This clue could very well make or break him. For $14K and the lead or zippo, here's the clue:

Its original purpose was to insure people on journeys.

"What is Travelers?"...YES INDEED FOR THE DOUBLER AND THE LEAD! A bit later, the other DD of the round is his, attached to the middle clue on Photographers. With $17,200, he's pretty close to moving into LGT, as Les has $10,700. On this occassion...he risks seven big ones. Thus, he's risking the lead on this answer, which could put him in LGT if he nails it:

He once said that his life was "...colored and modulated by the great Earth gesture of the Sierra".

"Who is (Ansel) Adams?"...GOT IT for $24,200! No time for the last two Bestsellers clues, though.

ATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $2,400 ($1,200 clues on Bestsellers & Photographers)
SOLE UNATTEMPTED TS: $2K (World Leaders)
TOTAL DJ! LACH TRASH: $4,400
