New Year's Eve '10 Results

WoF: On our last night during the fourth week of episodes from Las Vegas, Around the House is the category of the $1,000 Toss-Up:

C _ _ _ P _ G _ E

G L A _ _ E _

This is the only time this week, I believe, that the opening TU had anything to do w/ this week's theme; Kristen solves CHAMPAGNE GLASSES in any case. Let's now go down the line in greeting our last three contestants this year:

Kristen Zosh (Cedar Grove, NJ)- Montclair State University graduate student studying International Literature/freelance writer
Holly Walczak (Vegas; originally from Erie, PA)- A woman who has been living in the Gambling Capital of the World for a decade & is celebrating her 15th wedding anniversary
Jym Bagtaz (Wilmington, MA)- An office manager by day & a punk rock drummer by night

The $2K TU is a Thing:

F _ _ _ Y

B _ N E

Jym tickles his FUNNY BONE to get control of the wheel.

After we hear from Mr. Thornton about a $5.5K trip to the MacArthur Place in Sonoma Valley, CA, the theme of the Wellgate Jackpot Round category is Event. He calls three A's while on Free Play, a $500 S & two T's for another $1,600, then he buys five E's, calls two H's for another $800 & a Y for the Wild Card & purchases an I before going for the solve...

_ A T _ H I _ _ / T H E

_ E _ / Y E A _ ' S / E _ E

_ A _ _ / _ _ _ _

...he'll be WATCHING THE NEW YEAR'S EVE BALL DROP after pocketing another $2,400 & $4,400 total.

PERFECT ROUND
LEFT BEHIND IN JACKPOT: $7,200

Prize Puzzle Round category's Food & Drink. Kristen first calls a $400 R, but she immediately Bankrupts after that in between $600 & $900 to lose the four bills just like that. Secondly, Holly calls two S's for $1,400, buys an E at the end of the board & calls a $500 N, then she purchases three A's, calls a $900 L & buys two I's before calling an O while on FP & three C's to add $1,350. The layout now...

C R I S _ _ / C _ I _ S

A N _ / _ _ A C A _ O L E

...she chomps up $3,400 & some CRISPY CHIPS AND GUACAMOLE en route to her holiday at the Villa del Palmar Flamingos Beach Resort & Spa in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico worth $5,620, putting her on the board as the new leader at $9,020 in cash & trip.

SOLE BANKRUPT: Kristen

TONIGHT'S SPIN ID: DM2061821 (Don M. from Oklahoma)

Onto the Gold Bond Mystery Round we go, and its puzzle category will be Show Biz. Holly, who just took the lead, begins this puzzle by calling three R's for $1,650 & buying four E's, followed by four S's for an additional $3,600, three I's, a $1,600 pair of N's & a set of O's. The story now:

_ E _ E _ I S I O N

& / R _ _ I O / _ O S _

R _ _ N / S E _ _ R E S _

She nails TELEVISION & RADIO HOST RYAN SEACREST (who has been co-hosting "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" w/ Dick Clark since a few years ago) for 61 hundred more dollars, so she's got $15,120 in cash & Mexico to smile about.

PERFECT ROUND #2

We then have to ask What Are You Doing? for 2010's last TU:

M _ K _ _ G

A / T O A _ T

Jym's MAKING A TOAST to go to $7,400.

On the next puzzle, a Phrase needs to be unraveled. While in the lead-off position, he runs right into Lose a Turn. Second, Kristen calls a $350 R, buys a couple E's & calls triple T's for 18 more Benjamins before we shift into the Last Chance Mode part of our match...

T _ E / _ R _ T _ _ _

_ _ / _ _ / T _ E / _ _ _ _

...and $1.5K will be deposited into anyone's bank every time they call one of the remaining consonanants & it shows up. After Jim inserts an H pairing...

T H E / _ R _ T _ N _

_ S / _ N / T H E / _ _ _ _

...he knows THE WRITING IS ON THE WALL, but he does make the $3K solve to finish w/ a total purse of $10,400! Kristen has a non-gooseegged grand to leave with & Holly takes the last maingame of the year w/ $15,120 in cash & vacation!

$26,520 in cash & Mexico was won upfront just before 2011 rolls around.

SOLE LaT OF THE NIGHT: Jym

TONIGHT'S BANKRUPT TRASH: $400

Final Maxwell House Big Money Round of the Year: NO duds were called in the front game this evening, so maybe that will bode well for Holly here as she spins the triple star of the Bonus Wheel. After we find out that the topic is going to be Thing, RSTLNE brings us:

_ _ _ _ _ R _ _ N _

_ _ S _ _

M, C, D & I gives her...

_ _ C _ _ R _ _ N D

M _ S I C

...after a few seconds preceding her big solve, we hear the BACKGROUND MUSIC play for the description of this- a Chevrolet Camaro LT (Fairly loaded) worth $30,719! Adding that to her $5K gas money bonus, her grand total as '10's final champ is $50,839 in cash & prizes!

To end this year's shows, Vanna takes us on a tour of some of the city's restaurants around The Palazzo & The Venetian.

J!: Will Ellen Kimmel finish as their last champ of '10 & the first carryover champ of '11? But these two female players have other plans:

Lyn Thomas (Redmond, WA)- Library assistant
Allysen Meijer (Santa Barbara)- A patient financial counselor who once worked as a gourmet pickle spokesperson for a pickle cart

Here are the first six categories of this NYE episode:

A YEAR ENDING IN ZERO
DOUBLE VOWELS
WINE FROM WHERE?
ELEMENT-ARY SCHOOL
THE COMPANY HE KEPT

COUNTING DOWN TO "MIDNIGHT"

While both Kimmel & Meijer are $400 in the hole early on, Thomas goes Daily Double Hunting, beginning w/ the $400 clue in Wine From Where?...but she shortly whiffs on the middle answer from the same category, which was:

South Dagestan has this country's longest wine-growing tradition.

After saying her response prior to buzzing in & nearly running out of time, she ends up saying "What is Georgia?", which sounds more of a U.S. STATE, so she's also $400 in negative territory. Correct: What is Russia? At the first break, everybody's now in the positive, w/ Lyn leading at $400, while the rest of the lady panel has $200 each. The first DD of the evening goes to...Kimmel w/ the last Year Ending in 0; she's leading w/ $3,200, which is double Meijer's third-place score; Thomas' in second at $1,800. The champion's wager is two grand. To keep the lead (and move into Lock Game Territory) or drop to last for the time being, here's her clue:

Lord Roberts commands British troops in Africa during The Boer War.

"What is 1900?"...yes indeed to take her total to $5,200! However, she gives incorrect responses on each of the last three Element-ary School clues to drop to $2,800, meaning she only has a $600 lead over Meijer; her margin over Thomas is a thou.

ATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $3,800
UNATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $3,400
TOTAL LACH TRASH: $7,200

The last dozen of subjects for the year look remarkably like these:

SCULPTORS
WATCH "ING" THE MOVIES
AIX-LA-CHAPELLE'S SHOW
LOST
NOT JUST AN AD WRITER
WORDS IN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES (each correct response is within a country's name; the number of letters in the word is also provided on just the $400 clue)

Early in the second half of this round of play, Thomas finds a DD under the next-to-last Lost clue w/ $4,200; she's a C-note behind the champ for second place & $2,800 back of Meijer for first. Her wager's $1,300 on this:

Completes the Gertrude Stein quote about post-WWI young people: "You are all a..." this two-word phrase.

"What is lost generation?"...correct to move into second w/ $5.5K! W/ only Aix-La-Chappelle's Show left in full & less than a minute to spare, Meijer starts in the middle hunting for the last DD of this year...but time runs out before it can be found behind either the $1,600 or $2K clues.

ATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $3,600
UNATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $6,400
TOTAL DJ! LACH TRASH: 10 G's

Post-DJ! Scores:

Ellen: $7,200
Allysen: $10,200
Lyn: $7,100

CORYAT SCORES:

Ellen: $6,200
Allysen: $10,200
Lyn: $7,400

There's both a 2/3 betting situation & Stratton's Dilemma that the girls need to consider just before the final clue this year gets unveiled.

FINAL JEOPARDY! WAGERING SUGGESTIONS:

Ellen: Less than $1,200 or more than $7K
Allysen: $4,201
Lyn: $101-$1,100

FJ! TOPIC: Political Terms.

A 1912 speech said the Bull Moose Party "comes from" these; "...it has grown from the soil of...people's hard necessities".

Lyn Thomas put down "What are grass roots?"...right, & she actually bet six big ones, so up to $13,100 she goes. Champ Ellen Kimmel...is incorrect w/ the grapes of wrath & only gambled $3K anyway; she's finished w/ $4,200. And that's the last question anybody wrote, meaning Thomas will go into the new year as the titleholder. Kimmel leaves w/ $38K.

FGN: $17.5K and/or a trip to the Occidental Grand Aruba could be collected tonight by either:

Red Team: Kelsey (who loves to do ballet dancing), Kevin (a brother who plays the guitar & trombone in a band, as well as being a member of a youth hockey team), Marcy (a mom who can cook some great chili) & Clark (a dad who frequently takes his family to the beach)
Yellow Team: Camden, Kenna (sister; both children love to jump on their trampoline), Evan (dad) & Debra (a mom who can do very loud burping)

Guess Who?:

1. ...is a graduate of Harvard Law School?
2. ...was born & grew up in Hawaii?
3. ...was a U.S. Senator before becomming Commander-in-Chief?
4. ...has a wife named Michelle & is the first African-American U.S. President?

TPiR: For the second season in a row, their last episode of a year will feature some of the most popular prizes offered; in this case, it's during 2010! Remember, the glassless George Gray will be the designated announcer of the morning.

WoF: Last night, despite a pretty easy bonus puzzle w/ the $100K on the line, Vishal missed out on becoming the biggest male winner of the season so far. Before we meet tonight's big winner hopefuls, we need to do a $1K Toss-Up puzzle that will be a Phrase:

_ A _ _ Y / _ S

A / C L A _

Austin's NOT even remotely close w/ ______ AS _ CLAY.

H A _ _ Y / A S

A / C L A _

Scott should be HAPPY AS A CLAM, because he's on the board first. Now, to the bios:

Scott Davidson (Raleigh, NC)- A high school Math teacher who's also a member of the Golden Road.net message board!
Austin Musick (Santa Monica, CA)- An actress/fitness model who's the oldest of seven siblings
Richard Luthegar (Vegas)- An elementary P.E. teacher who loves to make his own salsa

What Are You Doing? is the burning question for the $2K TU:

S _ I F T I N G

G E _ _ _

Scott's SHIFTING GEARS to triple to $3K.

After we hear about a $5K stay at the Hotel Montelone from Jimmy, Scott instantly Bankrupts next to the $2,500 wedge just after we find out that the Wellgate Jackpot Round category is Food & Drink. Secondly, Austin calls a $900 T, two A's while on Free Play, an N for the Wild Card, but then a dud of H while on the Jackpot Wedge. Third, Richard calls two S's for $900 and buys three E's, followed by an $800 K at the end of the board, the buying of two O's, two R's for another $600, three L's to add $1,800 & his purchase of three I's to clean out the vowels. After he lights a $600 B, we have...

_ L A _ E - B R O I L E _

S I R L O I N / S T E A K

...and he eats a FLAME-BROILED SIRLOIN STEAK for $3,950 & an early $950 lead.

SOLE DUD: $500 H (Austin)
SOLE BANKRUPT: Scott
LEFT BEHIND IN JACKPOT: $9,650

Time for a Same Name Round, beginning w/ Austin calling a $550 T, but immediately following that call is a dud of N. Second, Richard just barely misses the Million Dollar Wedge and hits its left Bankrupt instead. Third, Scott calls an R for the Gourmet Foodstore gift tag & two S's for $1,800, after which he buys three E's, calls two H's for $1,200 more, purchases double O's & inserts a couple of L's for an additional $1,600. Here's the board now:

S H E R L O _ _

& / _ _ T _ E

H O L _ E S

He nails SHERLOCK & KATIE HOLMES for an extra $5,100 in cash & gift certificate and the lead back w/ $8,100 in total winnings.

SOLE DUD: $300 N (Austin)
SOLE BANKRUPT: Richard

The category of this evening's Gold Bond Mystery/Prize Puzzle Round is Fun & Games. Up first, Richard calls a $300 T but he then spins up the same natural Bankrupt Scott got to start the night's wheel spinning; that's his second one tonight. Speaking of Scott, he's second in line w/ a pair of N's for $1,200, the four I's that he buys, two G's for yet another $1,200, but next comes the other Bankrupt of the MDW to plunge $2,150 down the toilet; both men now have double the Bankrupts on the night. Third, Austin calls a $900 D & a V for the trip, purchases a U, lights up a $3.5K R but elects to save his WC for right now. She next puts up a $900 L & purchases a trio of A's prior to landing on the Mystery Wedge in between FP & Lose a Turn and calling for twin S's. She takes the $2K safety route (good, because she would've Bankrupted), then she calls a $3.5K F and uses her WC this time to light a P to double that amount that's currently on the top dollar space. We now see...

S _ U _ A / D I V I N G

A _ _ N G

T R _ P I _ A L / F I S _

...but she gives her second incorrect response of the evening, this time by one lousy cottin pickin' letter, w/ SCUBA DIVING ALONG TROPICAL FISH; that means she just wasted at least $18,800 in cash & Mardi Gras. Afterwards, Richard inserts a $1,600 C pairing & an $800 M and here's the setup this time...

S C U _ A / D I V I N G

A M _ N G

T R _ P I C A L / F I S _

...he steals SCUBA DIVING AMONG TROPICAL FISH to add $2,400 to his potential spending money for his trip to the Divi Carina Bay priced at $6,700, for a new leading total of $13,050 in cash & vacation. Austin just lost out on a $25.5K round as a result of her agonizing missolve.

Ellen Kimmel (Nanuet, NY)- A school nurse who appeared on "The Howdy Doody Show's" Peanut Gallery at the age of four
Raghuveer Mukkamalla (Herndon, VA)- IT analyst

First six categories:

DO TRY THIS AT HOME

Marissa's the early leader w/ $2,600 by $400 over Raghuveer; Ellen has $600. On the penultimate clue of the round, the champion locates the Daily Double under the $800 clue dealing w/ U.S. Flag Etiquette w/ five grand; she's ahead of Raghuveer by $2K & Ellen by $2,800. Her wager on the following clue is $1.5K:

On this holiday, this flag's displayed at half staff until noon & then at full staff until sunset.

"What is Memorial Day?"...that's it to inch her up to $6.5K! Ellen's right on the last clue to finish Round 1 w/ $3,200.

SOLE ATTEMPTED TRIPLE STUMPER OF THE ROUND: $1K (Do Try This At Home)
UNATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $2,600
TOTAL LACH TRASH: $3,600

BABY TALK

Late in this round, both DDs are still up for grabs under Fly Me With Balloons & Baby Talk. The first one is found by...Marissa underneath the $1,600 Baby Talk answer. We've got a tight match going on, as she's in third place w/ $10,900, trailing Ellen by $700 & Raghuveer by $2,100. Her wager this time will be $3.5K, so she needs to be right on this to take over the lead for the time being:

One who brings peace, or this object that soothes baby, from the Latin for "peace".

"What is a pacifier?"...she had a reason to smile while saying that, because she's the new leader w/ $14,400! And three clues later, she completes the DD Sweep w/ the middle spot in Fly Me W/ Balloons & $15,200, as well as a $200 lead over Raghuveer; Ellen's not too far behind at $11,600. She'll risk...five G's, at the risk of falling to last if she goofs. The clue:

The first manned untethered hot air balloon ride covered 5.5 miles over this capital.

"What is London?"...SORRY. It was a European capital city, but the right one was Paris, so she's back to $10,200.

SOLE TS OF THE ROUND: Unattempted $2K Med. Abbr. clue

Post-DJ! Banks:

Marissa: $10,200
Raghuveer: $16,600
Ellen: $13,600

CORYAT SCORES:

Marissa: $12,600
Raghuveer: $16,600
Ellen: $13,600

Tonight's final has a dual-implication in terms of the wagering- a 4/5 betting scenario & the 3/4 for second place wagering situation.

FINAL JEOPARDY! WAGERING SUGGESTIONS:

Marissa: $3,400
Raghuveer: $10,601
Ellen: $6,800

FJ! TOPIC: Literary Lines.

"You have no right to expect me to send you back to Kansas" appears in a 1900 novel & in an epigraph to this 1995 novel.

I hope somebody didn't put down The Wizard of Oz. Marissa Goldsmith instead made her final question "What is Wicked?"...right! She risked...$3,500, so she stands at $13,700. Ellen Kimmel...also got it & gambled $12K to jump up to $25,600...and become the new champ. Raghuveer Mukkamalla, who thought it was In Cold Cold Blood instead, leaves w/ the $2K runner-up check.

As for you Marissa, you're done on this show (errors notwithstanding), but w/ a final total of $45,100; you did well for yourself following an outstanding titleholder like Tom Nissley!

...he solves FRANKIE VALLI & THE FOUR SEASONS to take the early lead w/ $2,450. And we see a clip of them singing as we head into the first commercial break!

SOLE DUD: $300 Y (Marquise)
SOLE BANKRUPT: Stephanie
LEFT BEHIND IN JACKPOT: $8.5K

Tonight's Before & After Round board has three words, w/ an apostrophe near the end of the one at the top. We begin w/ Marquise, who calls a $550 R & a $600 T, buys two A's, calls three S's to add $2,100, but she then hits the same Bankrupt of the MDW Stephanie previously got to lose three grand. Second, David calls two N's worth a C-note but then spins up the regular Bankrupt in between $600 & $900 to lose that & the WC right off the bat. Third, Stephanie calls a $300 G prior to spinning the other natural Bankrupt; that's her second one tonight. On Marquise's second turn, she lights a $300 M, buys a couple of E's & inserts a $1K pair of Y's while on FP for the second time this evening before we take a look at this...

G R E Y ' S

A N A T _ M Y

_ E S S _ N

...and after this "GREY'S ANATOMY" LESSON, she pockets her first $1,050.

BANKRUPTS: 3 (Everybody)

Gold Bond Mystery/Prize Puzzle Round topic's What Are You Doing? While in the lead-off position, David also becomes a victim of the MDW's right-side Bankrupt; that also gives him a pair of Bankrupts to his name on the evening. Second, Stephanie calls a couple N's for $1,800 & a G while on the Mystery Wedge in between FP & Lose a Turn. She flips it over...but that results in her third Bankrupt this match. Third, Marquise calls a dud in T. As we almost get right back to David, he calls a $1,650 R trio, buys an I & two A's, calls for an $1,800 F pairing & buys triple O's, followed by double S's for an extra $1,800 and his buzz-in...

...he'd better go SHOPPING FOR A NEW SURFBOARD, because he improves his leading overall bank considerably w/ an additional $4.5K & a $6.5K trip to The Royal Hawaiian in Oahu from Funjet Vacations.com, bringing him to $13,450 in cash & Hawaii.

SOLE DUD: $600 T (Marquise)
BANKRUPTS: 2 (David, Stephanie)

TONIGHT'S SPIN ID: MN00660 (Mona N. from Texas)

Onto the $3K TU we go, and its subject will be Food & Drink:

_ _ E _ R Y

David eats some CHERRY COBBLER to up his total to $16,450.

Tuesday's Last Chance Round revolves around at least two Fictional Characters, and all consonants will pay...$6K a pop! After David calls the D...

_ I R _ - _ R _ _ T _ I N G

D R _ G _ N S

...he defeats these FIRE-BREATHING DRAGONS for a $24K payday & a big match-winning haul of $40,450 in cash & vacation! Stephanie's going home $2K richer & Marquis has to settle for $1,050; both ladies left behind $18K apiece in that crucial round.

So far, $43.5K in cash & travel has been won tonight.

TONIGHT'S BANKRUPT TRASH (excluding WC): $7,100

Maxwell House Big Money Round: I hope Dave won't need that WC now. The Bonus Wheel stops on that apostrophe for him, and the bonus puzzle category of the night is Phrase. Starting with:

_ N / T _ E

_ _ _ _ L E

He calls B, G, C & O & we now see...

O N / T _ E

_ O _ B L E

...ON THE DOUBLE, budget people (I thought for sure it was ON THE BUBBLE)- you need to pay this guy...

...$35K more, so we send him packing w/ $75,450 in cash & Hawaiian getaway!

J!: Virginia's Marissa Goldsmith (whose husband was influenced by former six-time champion Jason Zollinger to have her buy him a tie w/ a picture of their daughter on it) is one or two wins away from being in Tournament of Champions contention. But one of these folks wants to start their own run:

Anthony Curtis (Great Falls, MT)- A pawn broker who got his picture on a restaurant's wall for eating something called the "Dogzilla" in approximately 10 minutes (it was a two-pound hot dog w/ an eight-ounce canoli & numerous topping, and the time limit was 12 mins; as Jay Leno would say, "How fat are we getting?")
Alice Jackson (Birmingham, AL)- Adjunct instructor of Art History

Light up the first six categories, Kevin McCarthy:

STATE CAPITALS
FROM PAGE TO SCREEN
MEASURING WHAT?
SUPER COOPER
WHERE'S THAT STATION? (each correct response is that station's home city)
"STOP" & "GO"

The first attempted category of State Capitals ends w/ Alice finding the Daily Double at $1,200; she has the $1K early lead over Marissa. The face value of this clue is wagered:

In 1873, the town of Edwinton was renamed this by the Northern Pacific Railroad to honor the German chancellor.

"What is Bismarck?"...that North Dakota city's right to double her leading margin w/ $2,200! After 15 clues have been asked in this round, Alice's in Lock Game Territory at $3,800; Marissa's in second w/ $1,400 & only leads Anthony for that position by $400.

ATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $1,800
UNATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $2K
TOTAL LACH TRASH: $3,800

Scores After Round 1 (after a reverse ruling on an incorrect response by both challengers on the $400 Measuring What? answer):

Marissa: $600
Alice: $7,800
Anthony: $3,200

Here's the board for Double Jeopardy!:

COMPLETE THE BOOK TITLE
THE PRODUCE AISLE
APOCRYPHA NOW
WHAT'S THE "PLAN"?
LOONEY TUNES
MERRY MELODIES

Just after rising to $9,800 and pulling within $400 of Alice for first, Marissa goes DD Hunting w/ seven clues to go (the last two Apocrypha Now & all of the Merry Melodies clues). She first goes in the center of Merry Melodies...after being right on the $1,200 & $800 clues, she finds one under the $1,600 clue! She's currently leading Alice $11,800-$10,200, but Anthony's a respectable third w/ $5,600. Of her current bank, she risks four large & her lead on this clue:

This 19th Century composer's "Mazurka No. 9 (Op. 7, No. 5) is one of the peppier ones.

"Who is (Frederic) Chopin?"...that's the composer to keep first w/ $15,800! Two clues later, Anthony picks off the other one from the $2K Apocrypha Now area while using the High School Strategy. He wants to be tied for second, so he'll gamble $4,200 of the $6K on his knowledge about the following info:

Four books in The Apocrypha are named for this priestly Hebrew family remembered in December.

"Who are The Cohens?"...NO. The actual clan was The Maccabees, causing him to plummet to $1,800.

ATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $2,800
UNATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $4,800
TOTAL DJ! LACH TRASH: $7,600

Scores Following DJ!:

Marissa: $15,400
Alice: $10,200
Anthony: $5,400

CORYAT SCORES:

Marissa: $13K
Alice: $10,200
Anthony: $9,600

FINAL JEOPARDY! SUBJECT: Cabinet Officers.

He was the last Secretary of State to serve in the post under two Presidents.

Anthony Curtis said "Who is (Henry) Kissinger?"...yes to add everything but a buck to take him to $10,799. Alice Jackson's wrong w/ Thomas Jefferson, so she loses $5,201 & finishes at $4,999. Marissa Goldsmith's guess of John Foster Dulles is also no good, but she surprisingly wagered just $4,600 (to force a possible $10,800 tie w/ Anthony), meaning she's won her third game by a buck w/ $10,800! What a time to go against basic FJ! betting strategy, huh (she should've risked $5,001 instead)? That makes your three-game total $44,100, Marissa; good luck on a possible fourth win tomorrow!

(Note: Kevin forgot to display Marissa's new total winnings before the credits start to roll.)

WoF: We're starting the second half of this season's shows from Las Vegas at The Palazzo to celebrate New Year's Eve. Not only is that Camaro from the start of the season back in play for this week's shows, but Jim Thornton is as well.

With all that being said, we ask for the first Toss-Up...What Are You Doing?:

Susann's BREAKING THE ICE to the tune of $1,000. And let's interview her & the competition before we get further in the game:

Susann Reiff (Lenexa, KS)- A woman who was single for 25 years until she married her soulmate on Sarasota Beach, FL
Audrey Rider (Indianapolis)- Advertising coordinator/sports fan
Andrew Coleman, Jr. (Vegas)- Loan officer in a credit union

The second TU is a Person:

M A N / O _

M _ S _ _ R Y

Andrew takes too long on the last word.

M A N / O F

M _ S _ _ R Y

Audrey remembers that Austin Powers was the "(International) MAN OF MYSTERY" to earn at least $2K & the first spin of the wheel.

Wellgate for Women Jackpot Round category is Event (this week's category wipe is a pair of party favors w/ fireworks going off) and out on the wheel now is a trip to the Riviera South Beach Hotel in Miami, FL from Worldhotels.com worth $7,250; the gift tag for tonight, Wednesday & NYE will be from ShinDigZ. Audrey's fairly weak opening spin fittingly lands on the Bankrupt in between $600 & $900. Secondly, Andrew calls two T's for a grand, two R's for another $1,600, three S's for another $1.5K & a $300 M, then he buys three A's & an I, calls a $500 C & an H for the gift tag (which is actually a party supplies gift package) prior to purchasing a pair of E's to clean out the vowels. The board now:

SOLE BANKRUPT: Audrey
LEFT BEHIND IN JACKPOT: $7,900

Prize Puzzle Round subject tonight is Song Lyrics. He hits Lose a Turn immediately. Second, Susann calls three T's for $1.5K but she gets the same Bankrupt the other lady got in the last round to lose that much cash right away. Third, Audrey calls two H's for $600, the same number of N's for a tripler, buys six E's but then a dud of O. Back to Andrew, he calls two R's for $800 but then lands on the right Bankrupt of the Million Dollar Wedge to have the eight bills go right down the drain. After Susan LaTs out, Audrey calls a couple of F's to add $800 to her bank, buys the rest of this puzzle's vowels (an A & three I's) & lights up an L for the trip before we see the following...

T H E / _ E _ T

T H I N _ _ / I N

L I F E / A R E / F R E E

...she solves "THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE" by Frank Sinatra for an extra $1,600, the Florida holiday & a second trip to The Springs Resort & Spa in Costa Rica that's worth $6.5K, so her score jumps to $17,350 in cash & vacations.

Third, Andrew calls a trio of T's for $2,700, a quartet of L's for another $1,600 & purchases a set of O's before putting up an $1,100 pair of H's and calling a K while on the other MW. He takes the $5,150 gamble...and it pays off! At this point, we have...

Ryan Vogt (originally from San Antonio)- Video game reviewer
Andrea Barnes (Johnstown, PA)- Stay-at-home mom

Here are the first six categories this week:

ALL ABOUT STEVE
ELVIS
NEBRASKA
A BIT CONSERVATIVE
CIVIL WAR DIARY
"POWER" LIFTING

It takes Marissa (who used to watch this show on the phone!) eight clues to find the Daily Double under the middle clue in A Bit Conservative w/ $1,400; Ryan has $400, twice as much as third-place Andrea's early score. She wagers $1,200 on this clue:

This two-word term for political conservatives comes from where they sat in the French parliament in 1789.

"What is right wing?"...correct to further move her into Lock Game Territory w/ $2,600! She's added $2K to that by the time we go to the first commercial break; Andrea's now in second w/ a grand & Ryan's in last for the moment w/ $600. No time for the last two Nebraska answers.

ATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $1,200
UNATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $4,400
TOTAL LACH TRASH: $5,600

The Double Jeopardy! Board:

PLACES IN THE BIBLE
MOVIE NAMES
THE RAT PACK

PLAY PENNERS
5-LETTER WORDS
THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAN INDIAN (Clue Crew clues from said place at The Smithsonian)

As soon as we get to the end of the subject about The Bible, Andrea's found one of the round's DDs w/ $4,800 and just $400 off the champ's leading total; Ryan's doubled up since the end of the first round. To tie the game, here's the clue for Andrea:

Hiel loses two songs in one King (s), fulfilling the curse Joshua laid on anyone who re-established this walled city.

"What is Jericho?"...also the last name of former professional wrestler (and "Downfall" host) Chris, we have a tie game at $5,200 each between the ladies! At the halfway mark in this round, Ryan goes DD Hunting, starting right square in the middle of Play Penners...on his second chance, he finds the other one underneath the $1,600 spot! He's got $4,800 and trails both females by $3,200. He gambles four grand, so this clue's for sole possession of first place:

This Irishman wrote five novels but none were successful; the over 50 plays during his career turned out better.

"Who is...Thornton Wilder?"...NO. The right author was George Bernard Shaw, meaning he's all but out of the match w/ eight Benjamins. Time expires before we hear about the $2K clue from the museum.
