J!: Will Jeff Amoros add even more to the big total he accumulated at the expense of the challengers I'm about to display?

Rachel Winer (Burlington, VT)- Graduate student in Teaching
Meg Price (Stillwater, OK)- Professor of Medieval Literature

The First Six:

MAMMALS
SITCOM SPOUSES (a couple's listed & the show must be IDed)
AIRCRAFT CARRIER NAMES
THE BARE FACTS
THE 10 COMMANDMENTS (according to the King James version of The Bible)
THERE WILL BE "RAM"IFICATIONS

The early lead's w/ Jeff at $2,400, followed by Rachel w/ $2K & Meg at $1,400. Immediately following a Triple Stumper on the middle Mammals answer that drops him to $2,200, Jeff picks off the Daily Double under the $800 clue on Aircraft Carrier Names; he's trailing Rachel for first place by just $200. To double up to $4,400, here's his clue:

This adjective meaning "courageous" is the name of a carrier that's now a (floating) historic landmark.

"What is heroic?"...NO, the actual word was "intrepid", also the name of a former Dodge automobile. But he still comes back to end the round tied for first w/ Rachel at $4,200 per person; Meg's trailing the two of them by only $600 while picking in Double Jeopardy! first.

Under further review on said attempted TS, though, a fourth definition credits Jeff w/ an extra $1,200 & sole possession of the lead for now.

LACH TRASH (all unattempted): $1,800 (Sitcom Spouses)

DJ! Topics:

ON WISCONSIN
THE CON FILM FESTIVAL
GILBERT & SULLIVAN
THE 1930s
I'M BORED!
FRENCH CROSSWORD CLUES

Meg scores a DD in the center of the Gilbert & Sullivan department; she has $6,400 & is $600 off Rachel's lead, while Jeff's slightly slipped to $4,600. To give Meg the lead w/ an additional $1,600:

A perennial favorite, it's set in a rather inauthentic version of Japan.

"What is 'The Mikado'?"...$8K & the lead are hers. Jeff closes out On Wisconsin w/ the last remaining DD & an $800 deficit between him & Rachel's $12,200; Meg has 10 times that deficit in score money ($8K). Jeff makes this answer worth its face value:

You can polish off this clue if you know that Frank Lloyd Wright designed the headquarters for this company in Racine.

"What is Pledge?"...wrong. He was on the right track- it was Johnson Wax.

ATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $4,800
SOLE UNATTEMPTED TS: $2K (French Crossword Clues)
TOTAL DJ! LACH TRASH: $6,800

Post-DJ! Totals:

Jeff: $11K
Meg: $10K
Rachel: $12,200

CORYAT SCORES:

Jeff: $15,200
Meg: $9,600
Rachel: $12,200

FINAL JEOPARDY! CATEGORY: Coins of the World.

50-cent pieces issued in 2003 by this country depict Frodo, Gandalf, Gollum, Sauron & Aragorn.

Meg Price wrote down "What is New Zealand?"...that's it for a final total of $12,201. Jeff Amoros...is also right to finish at $20,001, but it'll be Rachel Winer not complaining about this result- she's the new champion w/ $22,200. Jeff leaves w/ $32,801.

TURIN! TURIN! TURIN!

Kevin McCarthy makes another directorial mistake tonight (though this one isn't as bad as the one at the end of last week) when he focuses on the $400 monitor under From Sports Book to Film instead of the $1K one called for by Jeff while going Daily Double Hunting & using the High School Strategy at the same time...Adam ends up sweeping the rest of that category & is in Lock Game Territory w/ six grand by the time the first commercial break's reached; Dolores has $400, which is twice as much as Jeff's early total.

But Jeff's in second place w/ $1,600 once he hits the DD under the middle Turin! Turin! Turin! clue; Adam's added $200 to his lead & Dolores' slipped to $600 in the hole. For $3,200 or nothing, the clue is this:

In 1899, a group of investors founded this car company in Turin; its headquarters are still in the city today.

"What is Ferrari?"...we were looking for the maker of the 500 that should be in our neck of the woods by this time, but it's NOT that company; it was FIAT. Time runs out before we can see either the $400 or $600 To Everything clue, but Adam's even further ahead w/ $8,600; Dolores' $1,400 on the good side & Jeff's the one in negative numbers, $400 worth, but he will start Double Jeopardy!

SOLE ATTEMPTED TS OF THE ROUND: $600 (Scientific Names)
UNATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $1K
TOTAL LACH TRASH: $1,600

DJ! List:

AMERICAN ART & ARTISTS
THE DAYS OF GUNS N' ROSES
LITERATURE
BUMMER WORDS, MAN
ATHENS IN THE 5TH CENTURY B.C.
VIDEOPOURRI (picture clues)

Adam's hit a DD on the seventh clue of the round, the $800 one underneath Athens in the 5th Century B.C. & he's hit five figures at $12,600; Dolores' slightly up to $2,200 & Jeff's back in the black w/ $1,200. The champion's wager on the following's 2 G's:

The philosopher Anaxagoras discovered the true cause behind these lunar phenomena, but wasn't believed.

"What are eclipses?"...Mitsubishi makes those as cars & that's correct for $14,600! But Jeff's going for his second True DD of the evening courtesy of the middle answer dealing w/ American Art & Artists; Adam's currently leaning on $14,200 & Dolores' dipped back to $1K. This time, for $9,600 or zippo:

In 1970, sculptor Judy Cohen legally changed her last name to this, the city of her birth.

He's smiling when he says "What is Chicago?"...& Andy Nguyen will like it too, because Jeff's right for the doubler!

SOLE ATTEMPTED TS: $1,200 (Athens)
UNATTEMPTED LACH TRASH: $4K
TOTAL DJ! LACH TRASH: $5,200

Heading into Final Jeopardy!:

Adam: $15,400
Jeff: $15,600
Dolores: $9K

CORYAT SCORES:

Adam: $14,200
Jeff: $13,600
Dolores: $9K

FJ! SUBJECT: Poetic Subjects.

It was saved from destruction by a poem submitted to the Boston Daily Advertiser in September 1830.

Dolores shouldn't have risked a lot, but her last response was "What is the Liberty Bell?"...good that she didn't risk anything, because that's incorrect. Adam Marshall wrote down "What is the Old North Church?"...NO, but he only gives back $2,601 & finishes at $12,799. For $30,801 & the title, Jeff Amoros had "What is the Constitution Old Ironsides"...WINNER! Adam leaves w/ $53,800.
