The man in the middle, Deniz, has $3,200 & a $1K early lead over both women next to him. Before this round ends w/ Mine, Margaret closes the Queues out w/ that Daily Double & a first-place tie w/ Deniz at $5K each, who both have a $1,600 lead. Margaret wagers three of her five C-notes for this answer:

He abdicated shortly after Petrograd Police opened fire on a group lined up for bread.

"Who is Nicholas...II?"...she picked the right one to be solely in first place at this time w/ $8K! Not enough time to show the last remaining $200 clue, but she ends the round w/ $9K & a $2,200 cushion over Deniz.

Deniz hits a D^2 w/ $12K after choosing the $2K spot in "D" for Science; he trails the champ by $1,800, but Melissa's starting to charge as well w/ seven G's. For another three & the lead, his clue is:

It's either of the two cells formed when a cell divides-- each one's a genetic duplicate of the parent cell.

"What is diploid?"...that & duploid are both incorrect; the correct term was "daughter cell" & he's dipped to $9K. Melissa meanwhile has her DD chance from the $1,600 Spiritual Autobiography w/ $9,400; she's $400 over Deniz for second & is $4,400 out of the lead. Melissa makes this answer worth $2K:
